'Noisy television" on render

Hi, wondering if anyone could help. I'm getting a weird pattern when I render from AE. It looks like television interference! Image attached below.

Have you seen anything like this before? Can you tell from looking at it what might be causing it?

Any help very, very much appreciated!

Edit: Just to clarify, it's only showing up intermittently in the video. Playback is fine for a few seconds, then there's a quick flash of static. And it seems to be coming in different shapes -- sometimes fills up the entire screen, sometimes just a little at the top, etc. And it's definitely written into the video itself and is not just a display issue.

Try rendering an image sequence (around the area where you get the error). If it's in the sequential images it might be a problem with your source footage. If it's not in the image sequence, it might be the video codec, write speed of drives or just some other bug.

Maybe a few more hints at what you're using (settings etc) might narrow it down.

Derek, thanks very much for the helpful reply.

As it turns out, I discovered a workaround. I was trying to export to uncompressed AVI, but the "television static" disappeared when I exported to h264, and that was good enough for this particular job.

So, if anyone is searching for help with a similar problem in future, and Google has led you to this thread, I've got no idea what the cause of this problem is... Not sure how it could be codec-related, since it was a pretty standard codec. Don't think it's to do with RAM or write speeds, since my computer seems to have enough of both of these. Couldn't isolate a problem to do with effects, and most of the effects I was using were pretty standard anyway. Possibly a problem to do with source footage...
