My just-about-new Maxtor 750gb drive is making some awful noise like the spinning drive brushing against something. It's quite loud. Doesn't happen every time, and when it does happen I can usually get it to stop by ejecting it from my desktop, shutting it down and re-starting it, which is tedious.
Of course I'm freaked out about losing data (my project files are backed up, but losing my media would be huge) [I use FCP 5]. I don't currently have another drive large enough to back all of my media up on.
I'm also finding that my exports of a small, 7 minute project is taking much, much longer than should be the case with an 800 firewire connection. Apart from that, though, I'm still opening, working on and saving my project without any problems (yet).
am I (about to be) screwed? Is it time to return this drive?
