Just got my DVX100a and so far, so good. However the headphone circuit seems to have more hiss than I experienced with my Canons (GL2 and XL1s). Is this normal for the DVX100a or should I be concerned?

Re: Noisy headphone circuit normal?

That's what I figured. Thanks!

Re: Noisy headphone circuit normal?

if you use external mixer , use the rca outs for monitoring , just make them right angle cables not to male pressur on the sircuet bord

Re: Noisy headphone circuit normal?

The original DVX doesn't have much if any hiss, but many complained that the headphone volume was too low, so on the "A" version they gained the headphone volume up but in doing so introduced a lot of hiss. So it became clear why it was on the low side to begin with, they should have re-worked the circuit but didn't, so yeah, you can consider it a design flaw.

it is normal to f... the sound in some  place on almost every video producT
sometimes it on the headphone -monitoring side like dvx ( deleyed output +hiss, sony 790 hd 900 distorting headphone amp ( 90 k camera) hissi line outs ,
and sometimes its only **** preamps and audio cirquit  sony 150,170
the camera makers dont really care about the audio section and if it was in their hends they probably was doing nothing to keep it consumer level
so dvx 100a hiss is the best example for the cheapness and throing mud to our ears . the act that so NORMAL between the one eiy god creatros

Re: Noisy headphone circuit normal?

i am doing some sound testing prior to a short. i am using the AT835b shotgun. i also noted this hiss, but it seems to be more of a buzz than a hiss. i a using 25p and in some post i saw that someone attirbuted this to th 25p. i am really concerned. someone here suggested using a gate and condenser. this buzz is actually from the headphones not from the mic, so it is not ambient right? to be sincere i did not dump it yet to see if this sound is heard in playback too but i asume so. also the problem seems that if this is headphone buzz it will not be solved by a gate cause it is not coming from the mic. it could also be that the mic is not being earthed. any ideas? What do you guys use? does anyone use gates or compressors? do u all use mixers? will i be well of plugging the mic directly to the camcorder or not. 10x
