Noise while recording (DVX 100B)

I have a DVX 100B. While the camera is recording, there is a regular vibration that gets picked up by the internal mic and an external mic if it is close enough. What could be causing this and can it be repaired?

If I move the external mic far away enough from the camera it doesn't pick it up. That problem is solved easily enough. I'm more worried that this vibration means my camera is screwed up and will stop working.
 
Sounds like the external mic is not shielded properly...might be a bad external mic...not the camera...
 
Is it just the sound of the tape transport? The best solution is to always have the mic away from the camera, anyway.
