No way!!!

Hey there compadres, and com-madres, and comrades......
*whew*

Texas is tiring. I need a service center!
Precision Camera in Austin wants to charge me 240.00 for each of my three cameras (canon gl1,gl2, and my DVX100)

I say "no thanks"...and the service time is 2-4 weeks to BOOT!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

help. I'll fedex them to Alaska if it'll be cheaper and faster.
I'm so tempted to just use a tape!
And I really want to stay relatively local (Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio) to do this. And NOOOOOOOOOOOO, I'm not comfortable with cleaning the heads myself, and I wouldn't know how on the canon's anyway.....

in other news, I just bought the Sennheiser Evolution G2 wireless lav and plug-on set!

During my research, I barely appreciated the plug-on transmitter, but when it dawned on me that now I can turn my shotgun into a wireless boom, I became one ELATED camper. I'm still finetuning the sensitivity and ideal levels and all that, but overall I'm pleased!

Help me get my cameras clean!!!!
Cheap
and
Fast
and
Local...
And world peace would be nice too....

Mike, one of my professors used to say: "Fast, Cheap, and Good. You can only have two."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHGHGHGHGHGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Re: No way!!!

Hillcity, welcome back. Austin is my old stomping ground. I have an old friend whose been in the video production/sales/rentals business for 20 years. He's got an amazing business (studios, edit suites) in an old aircraft hanger in north Austin. I bought my DVX from him and his crew cleaned the heads and showed me how. They have TONS of equipment which require maintenance so I'm sure they can clean your cameras for you or point you in the right direction. They are a Christian based service, so maybe that could be your opener.

David Fry is the Manager. Don't mention my name (Kirk) until after the deal is done.  I got a super price on my DVX so I don't think he wants to do me any more favors. Mentioning my name too soon might cause him to back out. ;D

Good luck!

Re: No way!!!

Cheap + Fast + Good = Impossible.

You can have it done cheap and fast, but not good.

Looks like Precision wants to do it good, but not cheap and not fast...

Sorry I couldn't help. 'twas the 'Cheap and Fast' in your post that inspired my to my rant. Good luck finding a service with the two attributes that matter to you most!

Re: No way!!!

GOOD LOOKING OUT, P.K.!

I'm making that call today.
RIGHT NOW....

****UPDATE****

P.K. is the MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

I just called Dave Fry at Omega and he was really nice on the phone, and said that he could do each camera for $62.50! That's just about 1/4 of what the other guys were going to charge for ONE camera, and I have THREE to service....so I can get all my cameras in for less than the price of ONE camera at Precision. (All I need is a head and tape-path cleaning.) ((Damnit, Jim! I'm an artist, not a mathematician!))

Amazing. And he said the typical turnaround is a DAY...
So far that's Fast and Cheap! I just hope it's good!

i'll keep you posted.

Thanks Kirk!

Re: No way!!!

Good news indeed. Hope it works out for you Hillcity.

I guess it's too late for me to get your vote for the DVXfest. (Not that it would have mettered.)

;D
