NO TIME CODE on tape from DVX100!

Just got 5 tapes from my client from his short. Shot on a DVX100 F5 preset. None of the tapes have any time code at all! Just 00:00:00 on the log and capture window of Final Cut HD and --:--:-- on the deck counter through the whole tape. WTF! Sweet Jesus does anyone have a suggestion? FCP HD won't even capture now as it's looking for a time code which doesn't exist. Nice start to a project....Geez...Eat it Tina you fat lard!
 
I have had this when receiving tapes from a client. I had to change playback device in order to get the timecode. Or if you can do a digital dub onto another DV tape, timecode should be created but I may be wrong.

Timecode must be there, but your playback unit probably can't read it.
