This isnt a DEMOCRAT vs REPUBLCAN or USA vs THE WORLD debate. This isn't to debate politics and it will be watched closey. This is simply an observation I do not like that affects each and everyone of us.

I am shocked. I am scared. It's one thing for PUBLIC GOOD (Eminent Domain) like an Interstates but for Hotel's? Shopping Mall's? An Office Complex's?

Makes you feel secure in buying that home.

ONe Qoute is "Writing for the court’s majority in Thursday’s ruling, Justice John Paul Stevens said local officials, not federal judges, know best in deciding whether a development project will benefit the community. States are within their rights to pass additional laws restricting condemnations if residents are overly burdened" he said.

Are you kidding me? Can you imagine these ASS CLOWNS here on the San Diego City Council making these decisions? (For those of you wondering just Google San DIEGO City Council and politics)

I cannot even imagine the government deciding this when it is for Commercial Gain.

Wow. Another step towards the revolution.

ya JH i live in downtown SD next to the ballpark.. and can already see enough of how much power the developers have.. the greedy ones are going to eat this rulling up. the SC is speeding up the spirial downwards. another win for the profiteers.. this f**king place is already owned by the corporations. now they have a federal stamp of approval. this country is more and more a company every day. my stomach turned this morning reading this.

ASS CLOWNS

- you are being too nice..

how about > super - selfserving - mother f**king - ass wipes...

there, i feel better now.

If strip clubs are buying off our politicians imagine what the developers can do. this is the perfect city for the abuse of this ruling to begin.

One day...I gotta get that hat!

As a Canadian it saddens me to see such a wonderful country rotting from the inside because of heartless and irrational decisions. It seems to me that US citizens haven't had a fair say in things for a long time. I do feel the only way for the US to return to normal is for a revolution to happen, since (pardon me) politics have failed. After all there has to come a time when the glorious vision of the United States shown on TV isn't what people are seeing in their daily lives. I mean come on, I can't believe anyone would find it fair for corporations to take any land they find suitable, this is common sense. You should have the right to life, land and liberty. Unfortunately there seems to be a "what can I do?" mentality and, unfortunately the government, backed by corporations, is always there to let you know just what you can and can't do.

/end rant

Did anyone else notice the Chinese are bidding for ownership of US-based companies Maytag and Unocal?! I am disappointed with our country's performance in many ways. :undecided

As a Canadian

After reading this ruling I'm begining to rethink my citizenship ... it might not be that bad to move up to Canada ...

I've worked damn hard for my house, and now a corp. can come right in and force me to leave? I thought that I paid for my land? I though it was mine! Those bastards! The almighty corporate dollar definately controls our government.

thisiswells-
Your comment is chilling - they (China) already have financed a lot of our debt. Maybe they are taking over this country from the inside out. Rather then an invasion they will own us financially ....

Canada definately doesn't look so bad.

I thought the sentiment would be the same; no matter the country I think we all can say THIS SUCKS if the COURTS decide that a developer can take my home.

Sad sad sad.

We always say "What next?" as if it can't get any worse; well it just did. And it will again. Yeah; I think in our lifetimes there'll be a revolution. We do indeed as citizens have ZERO say in really anything and all under the guise of Democracy and Freedom.

I'm glad a MACY's can sit on top of my land even after I paid a half million for it.

And KOVA

I used to live downtown myself (Church and Library Lofts) and saw the developers move in.

Mainly:

Home Ownership
Quality of Living
Less People
Best School District (School's) for my Son
Closer to wifes parents
Cost of Living

I suppose I could go on. I am a San Diego Native and I'm done with it. It has reached the point where Cost of Living here surpasses the reality.

im also a native.. dont meet many often.. moved back here 4 years ago after 12 years in europe. and im 'done with it' on most days..

the sunshine is really expensive.. i dont know where the people that are moving here get their money from.

I'm told you can although I know it won't be Alberto's.

But.....

You an get good old fashioned southern food and BBQ; it's a fair trade.

Wow. Another step towards the revolution.

I can't agree more. I suspect we share a good many feelings politically due that statement (ie another rather than a first step).

It's so sad to see. Honestly it scares me. Sort of like the recent flag burning amendment... though I suppose that could get into areas we don't want to discuss here (personally I hate political parties - it seems they lead to mass non-thinking nearly 100% of the time). I'm just enough of a rebel to really wonder...

SD? Really? That's quite a move!

I live in northern Wisconsin, and it sickens me to see the (once) pristine lands, forests, lakes, and marshes being sold off to the highest bidder. And trust me, it's the highest bidder is who makes it impossible for me to ever consider living on a lake. They come in with their huge pensions, bring with them their big-city attitude, and ruin what I (and the indigenous peoples) believe to be sacred. They drive up the cost of living, expect big-city service, and act like the assholes they are.

Development is driven by greed. The sense of entitlement accentuates the negative.

If the revolution is coming ... ... make haste.

edit: and realtors are the spawn of the devil.
