Features: No Pixel-Clip Feature (Auto-Iris Adjustment)

Just want to say again how much I love the idea of this feature.

No pixel is clipped. Great exposure tool, I've always wanted something like this.

Of course if you have a bare bulb in your shot it'll crank the iris down to f45 or something.... :)

Youre suggesting an exposure tool where no clipping is allowed ?

I can't think of many situations where this would be the best way to expose an imgae. It would mean potentially pushing the information you want down into unrecoverable depths.

Say you're shooting someone against a hot window, of even alongside a hot window. You don't want to *favour* the outside at the expsense of the inside. As a cinematogpaher, I'm there to choose where to position the exposure.

I'd choose to let some of the hot sky go outside (clip) but there are somebuildings that mean I can still hold a little detail out there, but trade some headroom back for shadow room.

Only in very certain situations would you not want to favour skin tones above all else. Sometimes that means accepting a little clipping in the miage. The question is for you as the DOP, to balance it.

What's more useful to me with a RAW camera, is having a tool that SHOWS sensor clipping. Then I can decide what I let clip, and what I won't let clip.

It's not a feature of the camera is it?

Thread title is a bit misleading, if not. Will adjust.

Whoah - no, it was right in the BMD page for the camera.

Iris Control: Iris button automatically adjusts the lens iris settings so no pixel is clipped.

Re: Artistic exposure / overexposure: Yes of course, nearly all of the time we'll exercise our artistic right to expose what and how we please, but for some reason I still like the idea of this option. Nothing's cooler than sitting down with the .dng's and knowing that you haven't lost a single pixel... aaahh

And yes I'd like to have onboard waveform, zebra, vectorscope, false color, and all my friends. But it's seriously looking like we'll have to bring out the laptop to have all that in the field...

Okay sorry, Matthew. Didn't see it.

Changing thread title.

Interesting tool.

Would you mind adding the link to your first post? That'd be swellsville.
