No Pcmcia slot on new macs pro book

How come Apple stopped making laptops with Pcmcia slots. You can't even buy a 17 inch powerbook with these slots. Is there any other way to capture with a laptop other than through the camera, p2 store, firestore. Why would apple do this. Do they not have any other use for these pcmcia slots. I was planning on buying a 17 inch and now they don't exist unless i buy a used one.

Any suggestions.

Buy a used one, or check around you may be able to find someone who has a new old style 15"-17" G-4 power book. By the way I have 2 15" PB's and they work very well for capture in the field or on the set.

I'd get a 17" Mac Book Pro. Once the adapter for PCMCIA --> express card is out (in a few months) it will be much better for P2 than any older model. Plus, you'll be able to use PC software too. It's much faster and (it'll soon be) more functional than any G4 Powerbook.
 
When are these available? I was just at the Apple store less than a week ago and they made no mention of this. (with FW800)

And wouldn't the FW800 make it possible to edit HD from an external drive? Just add the PCMCIA adapter and I will finally buy one. (?)

They just announced the 17" this week at NAB.
FYI, you can easily edit 720p DVCProHD with an external FW 400 drive with Final Cut Pro. (just make sure its a 7200rpm drive). Haven't tried 1080 footage yet.
