apart from batman begins, which actually is not going to be a pure ninja film, but have ninjas in it, there has not been any good ninja films of late.
i remeber when american ninja first came out, it started a craze, it was really good at the time. ofcourse when i watched it recently, i picked up a whole lot of bad acting and fx, but nothing too serious.

IMHO, the best thus far was Revenge of the Ninja, and Enter the Ninja

This is probably a good thing ;). I'm not sure I've ever seen a good ninja movie. These are the types of movies that tend to be FULL of impossible things such as chopping cement beams with a sword. While I do realize that cinema isn't necessarily a reflection of reality... it would be nice to see a movie where the sword is given the respect it deserves.

Sho Kosugi rules, and Revenge of the Ninja will always be the best ninja movie (and Ashley Ferrare was nice)!! If you can quote all the bad dialogue(which my bro and I do constantly), then they were probably doing something right (and why did Sho start a fight with "The Village People" at the park anyways? And notice how he and the police guy just "left" after beating the **** out everyone, in front of a lot of witnesses!!).

Kumaran, you didn't like Ninja III? I can watch the opening over and over, and Lucinda Dickey was hot!!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret of the Ooze.

"Go ninja, go ninja, go!" - Vanilla Ice

Do you guys and gals consider Iron Moneky to be a ninja movie? I thought that was one that stood out as far as a dude in a ninja outfit.

Sweet!! Just as I would start to make a ninja movie, I would end up re-importing all my sword fight choreography to conversion as lightsaber fights for my Star Wars films, because I just like Star Wars a little more.(I'm filming possibly my last one for a while in July).

At the last film festival I was at, everyone either did teen suicide (Damn, enough with beginning filmmakers and teen suicide already!! Is this like in unwritten law or something?) and over the top comedy(a la Trey Parker/Matt Stone/WWE humor). I'm glad someone out there wants to do something different, for once.

Let us know your shooting goes.

a ninja versus samurai was in the LAST SAMURAI

aren't ninja's, corrupted samurai's? i understand that ninjitsu is its own artform but that's how they came about- rebelious samurais.

basically, samurai's are jedi's and ninja is the sith.

Hey Young, I just looked at your website. I am very impressed. 3D animation is THE area in filmmaking I wish I had time to devote to and learn myself, but money and time just isn't plentiful for me right now. I only really only know light basics of Lightwave, and even then, my computer and 3Dcard is just too old and slow(Heck, I just learned how to use 90-something percent DVDSPPro3, and that, was chore in itself.)

I'm surrounded by filmakers who unfortunately only shoot and write over-the-top comedy and/or horror, and I hate to admit this, but sometimes I feel embarassed to have my name attached to some of the projects. While this is not a bad thing per se, I like putting together fight choreography, and, while I'm shooting a "Law and Order/CSI"- type movie right now, I yearn to make a lot of action movies. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do in post in 3D for my Star Wars project, as I got rotoscoping blades down pat (my last Star Wars film, made in 2002, had 2D ships--not as bad as it sounds, but not as good, either).

If you shoot in Northern CA, let me know.

Nice analogy there, DVpixl. That's basically where Lucas got inspired to create the Jedi from. I guess you can say that.

I freakin love Revenge of the Ninja. and yes I have to fully agree Sho Kosugi rules huge!! I love Enter also with the white ninja, but Franco Nero would make a better 70's porn star than a ninja. Another gem was Gymkata though I bet if I rewatched these movies I'd find them to be pretty weak compared to what we've grown accustom to... except for revenge, that'll always kick ass.

wasn't Van Damme's first movie a minor role in Kosugi's last ninja film? Black Eagle... just imdb'd it and found out that:

RETURN OF THE NINJA has just been announced either to be shot or released in 2006, with the only casted person so far... Sho Kosugi!!!

Absolutely!! I hated how he had his nose sticking out over the veil section of the ninja hood. I think they this did with the bad gut from American Ninja, its like you wish you can be there on set just to pull the veil over their nose!!

All ninja fans everywhere have been waiting for this. I hope Sho is still physically fit to do all the fighting.

actually they are assasins, they have honour. stealth is their way. ninja's could not take on samurai's head on, as samurai's had superior swordsmanship. the ninjas would use tricks, eg throwing star, to fling at a samurai in order to graze his skin, as if an invisible opponent had struck him and then moved away.
from what i have read on the net, ninjas (formerly farmers who were not allowed to practise their self defense art) were oppressed by the samurai's, they therefore invented their own type of weapons to disguise as farm tools, to protect themselves.

ninjas were also like the emperors spies, they were used to do specific missions, and to eliminate threats so no claim could be pinpointed to a particular king or emperor.

anybody played Tenchu on the playstation, now thats a game that really puts you in the shoes of a ninja.

by the way, i do like Ninja 3, and yes the opening scene was excellent, but Revenge of the Ninja is the best imho

Kumaran,

were you talking about the opening scene of Ninja 3 "the Domination" with the badass opening scene at the golf course?

D
