NLE advice?

My Mac Pro's days look to be numbered (failing logic board I'm afraid) and I must unfortunately buy another machine.

I'm looking at this:

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_Black_Pearl/

i7 3820 Quad core 3.6 GHZ
Nvidia GeForce 650 2GB 16X PCie.
I will bump the RAM to 32GB and also add more SATA HDDs.

I will also be using a Matrox Mini with Max PCie and dual monitors.

I will be using Adobe CS6 Master Collection and 3ds Max 2009 mostly.
Editing AVCHD for now mostly. Maybe micro P2 in the future.
What do you think about it? Is that processor and GPU going to be fine for what I'm trying to do? Or should I look at a different configuration/processor/GPU?

How will it compare to my 2008 MacPro Dual processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Xeon (8 core) with 20GB RAM and an nvidia quadro 4000 2GB card also with Matrox Mini Max?

I personally would recommend building one yourself you'll have far better parts vs. generic parts which you'll probably get with these machines (memory, psu, motherboard and etc.)
Here's my recommended list:
CPU : Intel I-7 Series (either the i7 3820 or i7 3930 (6 cores). If budget is not an issue then consider the i7-3970x or 3960x Extreme Editions (6 cores)
Graphic Card : GTX600/700 or GTX Titan (6GB 384bit)===== or Quadro 4000/5000+
Memory : 32GB either Crucial, Corsair, Kingston are good
For HDD : Highly recommend at least one 250GB SSD for the main drive
For Cases : I personally like the Cooler Master Cosmos 2 for two reason Hot swap and sleek design with plenty of room to build
PSU : something in the range of 700w~850w 80Plus efficiency should be plenty good

Hope this helps!

Thank you.
I can't afford another quadro card this time around unfortunately.
I've read some people say they are overpriced and only marginally better than the geforce cards. I
Don't know.

Since I will have to stick with cs6 for several years, can it utilize the 6 core processors or the better cards you mentioned?

I like all the brand name components you listed.
The reason I'm wanting to buy a machine is for a warranty. But I'm still considering putting it together myself. I'm just very
Short on time.

On the SSD: any fragmentation type issues after several years? I want one but was reading they are good for a couple years. Again, I don't know. Ive been using seagates and a WD 10,0000 rpm drive in my older NLE.

DerekT hit the nail one the head. The GTX 670, 680 or 690 will do you right. With 32GB ram (and I have crucial tactical ballistics good choice) a powerful processor and fast HHD array you'll have no problem getting where you need to go. If you have major 3d or cad to process I would recommend the xenon chip with duel sockets and 2 quadro cards. Even then bench marks are higher but minimal compared to a single i7 for basic 2D editing.

I can't comment on if or how 3ds Max might utlilize the GPU, but for Premiere, the GTX 660 Ti is said to be the best bang for the buck these days, according to the "Adobe experts".

I'm confident that you will find the the Core i7 quad or hex-core will run circles around a 5-year old Mac with CS6, especially with the GPU acceleration. Again, not commenting on 3ds performance, as I don't know what that requires for hardware.

Thanks, guys.

I'm looking now at the Geforce 780 3GB **possibly.
Wondering how that compares to the quadro k4000. I see the quadro 4000 is not as good as the quadro k4000 and also runs hotter. Looks like the k4000 is closer to the old quadro 5000.
I suspect the 780 would do better in adobe, but maybe the quadro would be better in 3ds max, but I wonder if the older versions 2009/2010 can utilize the advantage??

Whether I buy it together or assemble it myself, I'll be using major brands:
Corsair/crucial/Kingston RAM
Corsair PSU
Seagate or major HDD
Etc

I was in the exact same spot 6 weeks . I was hopping my Mac Pro would hold up till the release of the new one but it had other ideas & died.

So as a holding measure I went full spec'd Imac with 32G ram Run Davinic, AE no probs. Which leaves me sort a questioning if I actually need another Mac Pro plus the price I paid for the I Mac you could upgrade every year. I'm hearing of a 4K Res. Imac on the horizon.

Would a GTX 780 be better for adobe with it's greater CUDA cores?
But how about OpenGL in adobe and it's plugins?
I guess I need to get what is best for adobe (whichever that is) since I use it much more than 3ds max.
