Nipple Piercings

Ok- so i got them pierced- and now i am an outcast at the office. i think piercings are artistic and decorative....am i missing something? anyone else have cool piercings? I can say one thing- it was by far the worst pain i've ever felt. I'm definetly seeing that younger people like it- and the older ones think i'm a homo now. amazing. my friend refuses to go to the gym with me.

Zach you always have clever humor and I enjoy your posts so don't hold it against me when I say I just don't get that stuff.

I'm 34 and I guess I'm older then I thought I was... but I've had LOT'S of friends who got pierced and of course we stayed friends... I never thought about it that much honestly... but I really don't get it.

We have a kid at work who got the little ring off his eyebrow... he had nothing like that before... Honestly I'd love to fire his @ss just for that. He's a really good employee so I can't, but I really feel like he's counter-productive to the image that we're trying to project. Our business is struggling and I just think it's funny that so few people have a sense of professional appearance anymore.

You wouldn't see an eyebrow piercing on any CEO unless it's for a company that promotes that look one way or another. I doubt you'd even see an eyebrow piercing on a salesman in ANY car dealership... why? I don't know... just a feeling. It projects an idea whether you want it to or not.

If your piercings don't show through your shirt then I don't know why anybody would care? I never have. As far as I'm concerned that's your own business just like every other aspect of your personal, private life.

Just curious, are shirts optional in your office? And why are you running around the office showing everyone your nipples? Maybe that's why you're the outcast, ..and not the piercings. :) j/k

ahahaha. actually its an interesting story- i told one dude, the whole office found out. best part right here: my dad is the president- and he found out through the grapevine in the office, not by me. amazing.

It's true; certain deeply conservative uptight types find "look at my new nipple ring" a difficult conversation-opener to get past...

A couple steel rings in one ear is as far as I went.

I thought about an ampallang when I was younger and more adventuresome. But my wife put a stop to that.

Wait, wasn't there someone who posted a story about getting fired because he commented on another employees nipple ring and the guy freaked out about it and told the boss. Who was that?

I never cared for eyebrow rings myself. I have my ears twice pierced and the bottom holes are guaged to an 8. I also pierced my tongue. I think life is too short for us to run around decideing what other people should do with their bodies. My employer gets ripped if I wear both sets of earrings, says it looks unprofessional. But what looks more unprofessional, my earrings (wires the circumference of a pencil) or my 300 and 400+ pound co-workers? (good ol" Texas boys)
Me, I weigh 175 and it aint fat.
Live and let live, as long as you're not hurting anyone else. There are much bigger fish to fry.

i would agree that some piercings may look unprofessional in a business working environment- my employer wont allow any visible piercings, and i'd probably agree- not because i think its right- but because some clients may not think its professional, which could cause problems with sales, etc.

Doesn't it stop being a "personal" issue once you feel the need to share it with others?

Pierce 'em. I don't care. I just don't want to hear about it.

Just to clear up any possible misconceptions about me... I am NOT an uptight conservative type. Very much the opposite.

All I'm saying is that for many people perception becomes reality in their own minds. You don't have to like it.

Me? I could care less! Our best guy has an eyebrow pierced and our best girl has her tongue pierced... and everybody is in love with this girl. I've never said anything to either of them about it but all I said is that the guy is working against the professional image we want to project.

When you are at work it's not about you. Start a company and you'll soon understand that everybody has different ideas about what's cool and what's not. Maybe some guy will wear a shirt promoting something you disagree with or you think will cause tension in the office due to others. It's really easy to say "no I wouldn't care" but when you're managing a group of people you want everyone to be comfortable around each other if at all possible.

Let's suppose I'm a vocally religious person and I work that talk into every conversation you have with me. Over time it may grate on your nerves and I'd be known for it. So then I decide to get a nice big cross and wear it on the outside of my clothes every day so you can't ignore it every time you look at me. While you might not really CARE... or dislike me over it... you might secretly feel that you just don't feel like dealing with that crap in the workplace.

Like I said, I could care less... I'm not an uptight conservative and I'm paranoid of the implication that I might be... but I do see the world as it is and if you want the truth then I'll give it to you. If you wanted to post this just so everybody would say "those people suck... piercings ROCK!" then I'll honor your thread and delete everything but that.

Sounds like a guy I have to shoot with from time to time. It's really annoying.

Any topic, or viewpoint on a topic, can get really old in a very short period of time.

but i want to know why you tell a guy? i'd be telling the girls because then they would want to touch it........... now i always saw ties as a handle for which the boss has a hold on...you know by your neck. now they got another handle which to pull you around with(but you may like that) as for the girl being most popular with the men i think you know why.while all the guys are around her, you could be showing your nipples to the ladies hmmmmmm........then after you two get your jolly off you two should get together and lock peircings.....

I never got anything pierced but I've always wanted my lip pierced. I just don't want all that extra attention.

What the hell else are we suppose to do with our nipples?

i don't mind piercings -- in fact, i wouldn't mind getting one, but my girlfriend hates them, so that's that!

as far as bodily modification in general...i do have a pretty prominent tattoo that takes up essentially my entire forearm. you might think that it would be a problem in terms of employment, but i have been employed by several "professional" offices as a mortgage advisor and programmer and have yet to have anyone say ****.

i'm sure that they would like to, but the fact is that i do literally twice the work that anyone else does in half the time. they would have to pay two people to do the job i do if they fired me -- thus, in my experience, straight up productivity outweighs "professionalism."

speaking of which, i wish someone would explain to me what the necessity of professional attire/appearance is, exactly. i have met people with facial tattoos who are more efficient, honest, and helpful than some of the leather box toe shoe-wearing scum working in cubicles.

hahahaha PK, are you guys like best friends or something?

i just started this thread for an interesting topic to discuss- thats all Matt. :D
