Nine

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
From the musical (which I never heard of) inspired by the Fellini film 8-1/2 (which I never particularly liked). Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Fergie, Judy Dench, Marillon Cotillard...

...and Sophia Loren.

Wasn't expecting much but was very impressed - choreography, art direction, performances all really outstanding.

Far more enjoyable than the source material upon which it's based.

I just cannot bring myself to see another Rob Marshall film. His work is so throughly derivative. Going to see one of his films is akin to watching this Beatles impersonation band that does broadway shows in Vegas. He is able to use the same notes that were left behind by directors with master strokes, but it is kind of bland(and a little bit cheap).

He sure does get a great cast, though.

This was just about the worst thing I've made the mistake of seeing in a very long time. And I greatly admire Daniel Day Lewis. This film had no soul.

OH NO! I hate musicals but I was looking forward to seeing this; Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard (yummmy), based on Fellini...
:(
Guess I'll use my McDonalds Red Box coupon in a few weeks LOL

Considering how at odds you are with most folks regarding Avatar - which is a totally legitimate response for you to have, of course - I'm surprised that a couple of disdainful quips regarding Nine are enough to put you offa seeing it, if it's something to which you were looking forward...

Zak's aesthetic is really close to what I like. His specific content is different but the way he delivers and what he likes is something I relate to very much. I believe he approaches Directing/Filmmaking the same way I do, through empathy/nurturing and not a need to control the outcome. But then again I could be wrong.
I stalk him online, as a fan not a perv LOL

Also Jim and I shared a simmilar opinion on AVATAR, these guys seem smarter than me so I'll hold on to my 10 bucks :)

Daniel Day Lewis and Marion Cotillard are great actors and hover above the rest of the cast. Even Judi Dench is a disappointment, playing it all with a wink. The musical numbers don't push the story forward. And the title even irritates me. 8½ was so named because it echoed Fellini's body of work to that point. He'd done 6 features, 2 shorts and co-directed 1 picture. When asked why the title was changed from 8½ to 9, Maury Yeston (who wrote the songs) said that if you add music to 8½, "it's like half a number more!"

On a sad note, I noticed Anthony Minghella had a writing credit on this. :(

And HBO, we're watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Zak says it makes him feel like he's at least as good a director as Steven Speilberg :p

Well, you might as well throw on "Hook" and "War of the Worlds," then you'd both know for sure you're better than Spielberg.
