And a daisy for the Logo

Them fighting words, Hudson...

Daisy... I thought it was a sunflower, but yeah... I'm really the botony expert.

Jeremy,

The daisy photo is beatiful. I like the cc you did. :)

The tree reflected in the water isn't working for me though. :(

Chris

The more I look at it, the more I agree. There is something about it that... like you said, just isn't working.

I'm going to DC tomorrow to see the Yanks play the Nationals, so hopefully I can get some fun shots.

Thanks. This thread was a brilliant idea

I just hope we can keep it going.

I have a question though... How on the D50 would you do a 30 second exposure? I know that the max exposure time is 20 seconds and then it converts over to 'bulb'. So... how would you do a 30 second exposure time?

I ask because at that DPChallenge.com thread they have a 30 second exposure challenge this week and I think that could be fun to try out.

Thanks!

I just want to publicly say thanks for causing an ebay fire sale so I can get one of these yankster... yeah thanks for pushing me over the edge again... that's what real friends are for... for causing impulse mania.

I'm guessing you would simply use the 'bulb' setting and hold the shutter button for 30 seconds. The bulb exposure mode works by keeping the shutter open however long the shutter button is pressed down. Thusly, if you set it to bulb, held the button down for thirty seconds, let go, and BOOM. 30 seconds.

You'll need to get a cable release, or a remote that will let you hold in on the bulb setting like nik said, get a nice stopwatch as well.

So you NEED the cable or remote? It can't be done just with holding the shutter?

I'm sure if I RTFM that I could have found out what 'bulb' meant, but I didn't...

Isn't that what friends are for?

Well you don't "need" the cable release, per se, if you like blurry images. There is just no way that you are going to be able to keep your finger on the shutter release for 30 sec without getting a blurry image, unless you are shooting with a 9mm fishey, and even then it would not be as sharp as it would be with a cable release. So no, you don't "need" it, but it's a really good idea.

Jeremy,

That DPChallenge site is great. I never saw that before. I love the fact that you can group photos by camera or lens. Cool stuff.

Chris

I think it is very cool. There is this little park a couple of miles from my house and I figure if I go there about 8:30 and stop the lens all the way down and then do the 30 second exposure on this waterfall it could work. I don't know though... 30 seconds is a long time and really easy to overexposure and blow out.

EDIT:
Sorry about the post, was getting ahead of myself. Yeah, with that site it is sort of like the DVXFests because it almost forces you to get out and do something. Things like that motivate me to get off my ass and I need it sometimes.

I've got a couple but most likely need a few more for this shot. I think that this is going to take a very very long time to test and figure out what will work best.

Yankee, I like your daisy image, but a suggestion if I may. The CC on the flower is really good and brings it to life, but the bokeh (blurry part of the background, shallow DOF, whatever you want to call it) is really lost in the post Photoshop picture.

I'm not sure how you handle your PS adj/editing, but if you use adjustment layers, then I would mask out the background so that only the flower gets your current CC work, which again, is very nice and complimentary to the flower. Then, load that mask as a selection (Ctrl/Cmd Click) and invert and then use that on a your background so that you can color correct it seperate from the flower. I think if you bring the cyan/green up just a tad and bring up your white levels a little it will make the diasy pop more because it will be a nice strong contrast.

Just my two cents on the PD side of things, great pic through and through!

Thank you for that... I will play around tonight and see what I can come up with.
