Nikon User Thread

Thanks! I was using my 20mm 2.8. They were about 10-15 feet away from me at the most. Just off camera left I had an sb800 and sb24 in a shoot through, although if memory serves me I think I only had one turned on at the time.

Love. It.

The last time I was at Laguna for WSB was '98... that was a good year except for my ex-wife lousy company... Foggy was my boy back then

Thanks for the great shot. Valentino was an up and comer on Aprilia when I last checked... I'm glad he's turning out to be as we all expected.

Got real lucky with this shot. All manual settings, no post work done, managed to nab him in focus with my 85mm iris fully open at f2. Woo-hoo. :)

Great work, can you give us some post info on this shot?

Post info:
All shots combined with Photomerge to line them up, then the mattes were taken out and custom mattes were applied to reveal all the bikes. Then some CC.

Love. It.

Yeah Valentino has been running strong for a while now. The first practice day he and a few shifter cart guys did some laps. V hadn't been in the seat of one of those at all. The mechanic told him how to shift it after he got in. 1st lap he was leading by 6 sec, not bad against guys that are the #1 and 2 currently, and an ex cart racer. 2nd lap, Valentino had a 19.5sec lead on the rest of the pack...everything that guy touches goes fast.

Today I became a very proud member of the Nikon club with my purchase of the D700. I can't fathom at this point why it took me so long to arrive  (Cash probably) I've owned the camera for seven hours and am totally blown away though still very much getting used to the differences from the old Olympus. This practice shot @ 6400 ISO would have been impossible for me this time yesterday without at least one flash. I didn't get a great lens as I didn't have the budget, and won't have for a while yet, so I went cheap but semi versatile with a 24-120mm mid zoom. Even so, I'm thinking this poorly reviewed lens will suffice for the coming months. I'm just over the top happy with the camera!!

Thanks Dan, glad to be a part of it  Funny, even when I got the E-3 I really wanted the D700 just couldn't afford it! Won't be turfing the E-3 anytime soon as it's still a great system for nature shots but this new camera is definitely in a league of its own. Now comes the new slog for lenses and flashes but all in good time eh?

What happened? I ride as well.

Short version... I was riding up in the Santa Clarita twisties and came around a semi-blind corner. I wasn't going that fast, but didn't have time to avoid the mini boulder sitting in the road. My front tire hit it and both me and the bike went flying through the air. I wasn't really hurt though.

Luckily, my insurance + GAP coverage took care of the whole bike (it was totaled).

Glad to hear you're alright, Tom!

Quick self portrait today from my Nikon D90 w/ Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 glass. Love this lens!

I'll go with the selfie theme. Shot this about a month or so ago.

Great shot Dan, detail and lighting is WOW factor for me! Also nice to see you up close and personal :thumbup::thumbup:
