Nikon, Nikkor Lenses and Mounts for 35mm adapter.

I am starting to research the parts needed for a 35 MM adapter for my 3CCD cameras. I have heard from photogs that Nikon lenses edge out Canon's on color and stuff like that.

I am not here to debate Canon Vs Nikon.....

What I do want to know is if the F-Mount is still the main mount for the Nikons. I also keep on seeing a lot fo references to the AI, etc.

I ask this because if the Nikon lenses all mount the same, then that opens up a wide variety of lenses for my 35mm adapter.

Also is there really a difference between nikon and nikkor?

So before I start shopping like mad on ebay.

The basic Nikon F mount has stayed the same since the 50's (one of Nikon's biggest advantages over Canon, IMO). However, it has gone through some changes. The original lenses had two prongs that told the meter what the aperture was. Later lenses went to a more subtle notch on the bottom of the barrel (these are the AI lenses). The newer G series of AF lenses doesn't have an aperture ring at all...everything is electronic.

For your purposes, you'll be doing manual focus and aperture adjustment anyway, so it really won't matter as long as it's not a G series lens (you'll be needing that aperture ring). Good luck...
