Nikon AFs

Hi,
I'm a bit used to the AIs but I've never used any AF lens. I'm interested in the 17-35 f2.8 and maybe the 80-200 f2.8.

I was going to buy one used. But when I turned the iris ring, nothing happened. The diaphragm stayed wide open. There's a small lever on the mount, but when I pressed it, nothing happened either. Is this a flaw, or are they supposed to work like this? I didn't buy it, but I thought I'll ask you. I may have to test it mounted on the adapter, right?

edit: is there a problem using the push/pull model? If you could afford the difference, would you go for the ring model? Or would you go for a better prime or two?

I use both the 17-35 f/2.8 AF-S and 80-200 f/2.8D (not the push/pull model). Both are great and produce nice images. However, they are a bit slow for my Extreme as f/2.8 is borderline for the GG.

The iris should adjust when you turn the iris ring. If not, then it may be defective. Mounting it to an adapter will not help. However, if you mount it on a DSLR you can see if the electronic iris works. But this does nothing for you and your 35mm adapter.

I can't comment about the push/pull model. But the zoom on my 80-200 f/2.8D is very smooth and comfortable. The reality is, I shoot shorts with my primes and use my zooms on road trips for the convenience.

Thanks! Then I guess I should stay away from this one, and find a fully functional one.

I was thinking something like that too. Except for the 17-35 that should be great in narrow interior spaces too. In a controlled environement, It should produce great images...
