Nikon 32 pitch lens gears-who makes them?

Shoot35 sells 360 degree gear ring, but they're not that compact. Zacuto sells zip on gears but they're not cheap either. Indifocus also have zip gear, but I'm not sure if it's the correct pitch.

I am thinking of producing a similar system for the Hocus Focus. Compact and tight to the lens is the aim, and I would like them to look like they are part of the lens.

Will keep you updated.

Yeah, I'm noticing a lot of the gear sets are very pricey. A Zacuto rep pm'd me about their gears but I'm not too crazy about paying $300 for some freakin plastic. The cheapest I've been able to find a gear to fit my lens is $90. I'm trying to see if I can get away with paying $10...I might just have to make my own I guess and slang them on the net at a 1000% mark up like everyone else...lol

The reason the zacuto gears are expensive is the block that tightens it up, not the plastic racking.

That block is a small and intricate peice, milled from all sides, which is a slow and expensive process.

Seems expensive, but you get what you pay for.

We've got them too. Stay tuned in a week or so for the new design which incorporates a half dozen improvements based on feedback from the field. They still allow full 360 degree rotation in a highly precise .8 pitch (32) gear. We have never liked flexible gears as the gear tooth pressure angle varies as you change ("zip") the rings diameter. With our gears, the pressure angle (and therefore gear engagement) stays perfect regardless of the lens diameter.

Cheers,
Dennis.

I've been looking around for delrin type hard plastic gears for awhile too. I'm not sure where RP gets theirs.

Dennis, will yours still incorporate set screws? I'm trying to avoid that because anything other than hard pressed will typically not fly in the rental world.

Ok, what will the pricing be though since your FF already runs about $1k.....

Gear teeth are really difficult and time consuming to cut, and these things are all made in low volume. they seem simple, but they really aren't, and this is why all of the current gear rings out there seem to cost so much...

Just get that one. Best design I have seen and the lowest cost.

That ActionProducts kit looks great. I'd love to see more photos. Keep in mind that it also gives a standard 100mm front barrel size for matteboxes.

Does RP lens charge $250 for gearing and iris bearing removal/80mm lens hood or just for their gears?

Damn, I'm starting to think I'm in the wrong line of work. I should be making film gear so I can inflate the prices by 1000% and strike it rich.

$300 for a freaking gear......give me a break....

I think I should just make my own and sell them for $40 or cheaper.
