NightVision? Sound Recos?

Hi!

Can someone give me some boom mic advice? I'm shooting a documentary and don't want to rely on the built-in mic. I'm trying to spend between $400 and $800 and thinking about purchasing the Sennheiser ME66. From what I've read, it looks to be a safe, cheapish mic. Is that my best option at this price range, or am I missing something.

Nightvision? No.

The camera has a built in filter to knock out the near infrared so that eleminates that possibilty and the camera certainly isn't going to be modded into a thermal cam!

Does gain count as night vision (After all most of those scopes just amplify the existing light so...)?
