Quality is grainy, it's night vision so just find a Sony Camcorder to borrow most of the consumer models have O Lux Nighshot and short range illuminator. Long range illuminators by sony are dirty cheap brand new on ebay. If the quality was not grainy it would look fake.
I think this can be done, I have attached a detailed schematic detailing how to build a night vision adapter for the DVX.
Sorry, my AutoCad skills are a bit rusty mmkay?
Oh fine, go ahead and snicker! It will work I just know it. Simply record the screen of the Nightshot cam! OK everyone, get out your aluminum oxide and build your own!
I know, its not cool to make light of someone else's honest question, so I did a search and came up with some adapters at BH that allow you to attach Night Vision monoculars up to video cameras. It may be best to just use a miniDV cam with the night shot feature.
With a real light amplifier unit you can shoot far away objects, with the infrared "nightvision" only objects that are lit by IR LEDs. What does the client want? If the later, just use another miniDV with the night vision. Shooting thorough a viewfinder with DVX100 is going to give much worse image. If the first (like you imply), then you have to rent one from somewhere. Or buy, mucho $$$ for good ones.
Thanks, I should have noted that the client is very "high end" and when they specifically want something, they'll spend the money to get it and they specifically wanted a DVX100A/24P with a night vision adapter to be shot at night. period.
Wow..they super strict...i would jus say..shoot with the crap cam night vision....edit in a 24p timeline...uprezz the footage cuz the 24p conversion from 60i will make the quality a tad lower...then jus place back in your timeline.
