Night Club Lighting Kit help...

Hi all,
I need 2 get a lighting kit for my dvx100a 2 film some events at night clubs.

Nothing major, just something simple, nice, and budget friendly.

Can u please list the model numbers u all think I should purchase and any other tips/recommendations.

Thanx!

Are you allowed to plug-in any additional lighting? Often times you're not allowed as it will be too instrusive to the event...

I would probably recommend open face light as you probably just want to boost your overall illumination instead of finer control.

Most clubs have their lights and control boards. When teh shoot is legal they will most often work with you.

you'll have to shoot open iris in 24p

you rarely are allowed to add your own lighting because people trip on it and lights fall over and burn people or start fires. It's against insurance policies in most places or that's what they'll tell you.

What kind of events? May make a difference in what kind of lights you might need.

Well the interview is completely different than the people dancing.

If the interview is run and gun hand held, I would get some kind of on camera light with a small soft box,

or one of the on camera LED lights.

If you have more time to do your interviews, I'd use traditional interview lighting: soft key, fill and back light.

As for the dancers, I would whitebalance on a whitecard with a tungsten source, and just see what you can get from the camera. You might have to open up the iris and shoot it with a slow shutter 1/24 to get an image. I don't know, depends on how many lights they have going at once. You might also have to suppliment with an on camera light if you are getting in close.

Or if things are too dark in the club perhaps you could get the club to let you put in a few of your own film lights to add to the light they already have. As bcheong said cords and light stands are a problem at a club but if you can hang a few in the celing (perhaps from the already evisting lighting grid and just turn them on if and when you need them) perhaps you cold reach a deal with the club.

Is there such a thing as a spotlight that could be used to form a lighted circle around the key dancers such as they used in the old '40s movie musicals. Something small and lightweight that could be put on a stand or tripod that could follow the action of the dancer? Might be one for the DIY section! Maybe your local theatrical supply rental might have something.
