Nice Transport Canada Website for Drones

Quite restrictive. I will probably sell my quad because my drone is just another tool in my toolbox. It would take me too much of my time asking for permissions and all if I'm not 100% commited to taking aerial videos. Iwould have to makea decision...continue to do corporate video or doing aerial video.

I knew someone who got out of the ariel video business years ago in Ontario because of the restrictions. It was too much hassle and clients weren't going to pay for the extra time and $$ spent on permits and regulatory requirements.

Not to mention with the price of drones now there are a lot of people doing it without proper permits and permissions (mostly out of ignorance) but offering services much cheaper. The client just sees the price and most times I'm sure they get away with it.

The idiots always bring down harsher restrictions. I'm amazed at some of the bone headed things I see drone pilots doing on youtube.

A guy just got fined buy Transport Canada a few thousands dollars here in Québec (province). And he's not an amateur...far from that.

What was the fine for? I'm always curious on enforcement.

I've been wondering if the influx of new drone pilots willing to take the risks has made it harder for the pros to say no to shot requests that are dangerous or illegal.

I know when I hire drone pilots for shots I always make sure they have their stuff in order and would hope they can give insight on what is legal and not. I just can't keep up with regs which is why this government website is nice.

Not sure why...but all I can say is that Transport Canada went through all the shows (of an National broadcaster) with drones shot in it and they analyzed all of the shots and finally fined the pilot...not the broadcaster though.

Thats interesting from my perspective that they layed fault with the pilot to know the regs not the production company. I personally like that as someone who would hire a drone pilot and rather ignorant of the fine print myself. I'd hope someone would tell me no but I guess for many they try and hide behind ignorance and push people into un safe shooting conditions.

The whole drone thing is quite new to many..it will take (I think) 1-2 more years to clarify what is legal (or safe) and what is not for prduction company and pilots. Transport Canada, although quite severe, have made it more clear and has taken the right step forward...I say so even if it means that I will have to sell my drone.
