Went geocaching (www.geocaching.com) today in the Concord area and brought along the hvx for some tests, looks great. I'll post some movies later.

A BIT PHOTOSHOPPED

Yeah, that's a pretty good capture. It's suprising how well you were able to photoshop it, as far as detail and saturation in the shadow. Even if you boosted those values, it still retains clarity.

Question, would a grad filter have allowed you to open up more on the landscape and get more in-camera detail? Or were you already full open for that shot?

A grad filter would probably help, gotta test that one. That particular shot was at f3.4/f3.8 at 500th/sec shutter I believe. No ND filter. Not sure what scene settings.

Very nice. The changes you made in photoshop, can those be made in Premiere Pro or FCP's color correctors -- saturation, etc?

The original is nice, but the photoshopped version is gorgeous.

Thanks!
You can probably achieve similar results in FCP and Premiere. I adjusted the levels, contrast/saturation, selective color (to bring up the grass color and level) and I tried the channel mixer to adjust the overall tint (which made the scene look a lot warmer).

Look forward to try a grad filter on scenes like this.
I also adjusted the White/Black balance on the HVX before shooting this and monitored on the Marshall monitor. The purpose of my tests is how to adjust the settings so what you see what I saw...
