nice mixer, cheap recorder?

I have tried out a couple mixers and recorders and decided a good mixer is my first priority. So I'm investing in the Sound Devices 302. But that leaves little $$ for the other half, the recorder.
Q: would it be a waste to use a cheap recorder such as the Edirol R-09 with this mixer, using the stereo line out? i.e. do I need a better recorder such as Tascam, fostex, or even marantz to get the most out of my SD302?
I am not needing TC.

there is alwais better to have 3 channels you can mix in 2 , the r-9 will be fine
as long you go proper line level in .
the only issue it takes 2 gb cards only , so you will need a couple for long days
