NFB Canada animations observation

I've got my rant on:

Why do they keep making these obscure animations?
I guess they think it's more artistic, maybe?

I haven't seen one decent 3D animation from them. I've seen a couple claymations/ stop frame animations that were really good. A multitude of these immature 2d animations. Never a good 3D one though that you'd see from the guys at CgSociety, Pixar, Blue Sky Studios and so one. Aren't they the standard?

I think so. So why all of this immature level crap.

With all due respect to the makers of this short, here's one of the latest.

It's been bugging me for about a year.

I honestly do not understand it.

It guess maybe it's a matter of 'put up or shut up.' Maybe, I don't know.
I mean Canada is one of the leading animation producers, so, sigh, I do not know what this is all about.

I don't get it. I'm just not seeing the quality I'm seeing from people who do animated shorts for fun. Just.Not.Seeing It.

Rant over. I guess I'll never work for them now, lol.

Well, I looked at their Wikipedia page and their short animations have been nominated for a great number of Academy Awards with 6 wins.

I guess that being a government organization, they probably can't exclude people based on their level of experience or quality, but it looks like a number of talented filmmakers / animators have made films for the organization over the years.

They probably don't have many professional animators making films for them, so most of the films are probably being made by students or amateurs.

Yeah, they have a number of awards. They deal with film, not just animations. My beef is with the animations. They seem so dark age to me, personally. They seem so behind the times.
And that's strange because of all of the 3D animated features that are coming out of Canada.

It almost seems, to me, like they have a beef with 3D. It's been going on too long for me not to mention it.

But again, yeah, the films themselves, you know, the old 8mm and other docs are very well done.

//Edit:

well, hell, am I wrong? Point out some 3D animations, you know, something half decent, that has been produced from these guys.

Hmmm, Show me 3 from the past 10 years. How's that then?
Then maybe I'll change my mind.

I can think of one. Ryan Larkin. That's it. And ofcourse Chris Landreth.
OKay, that's two, but only Chris's was in the last ten years or so.

//and Ryans was 2D, but hey, I'd count that as a good one.:)

But who are the people making the animations for NFB Canada? I doubt that they are professional animators, but students and amateur filmmakers.

Yeah they are students. Mostly upper school kids. The NFB gives 3 month apprenticeships or something, produce their idea, and, there you go.

The pay sucks but they get exposure.

I don't know why the NFB restricts themselves to that. I mean if I submitted an application, at 50 years old, it would go right into the trash can. I don't get their mentality.

Art doesn't know age, so I don't understand these people. I , at moments, think they are just in it for the money. They certainly don't have any regard to art, imo.

In Chris's case, it worked out. He brought the money to the table.

I just don't see the NFB having as open a mind as they say they do. I don't see it.
Why the age restrictions? Why the crap 2D shi*, day in , day out? Is this all they can do?

It just looks restricted as a ruse to give themselves a job.

Convicne me otherwise. I'd love to be shown wrong.

Maybe they should change it to "The National Film Board For School Kids Who Don't Know What The poo poo They're Doing So We can Keep Our Jobs."

Sorry guys. One last post.

That was in reference to 3 3D shorts from the NFB in the last 10 years.

So, what about it?
Is there such a thing or am I full of shi*?
