next wave of gear upgrades. suggestions?

ok, so im up to my next wave of gear upgrades. my sennheiser 416 and oktava have just finished paying themselves off through hard labour so its boom mic upgrade time.

shotgun wise im pretty much only looking at the cs-3e.

hyperwise, im trying to make a call between a schoeps (either a second hand -trusted source- cmc441, or maybe trying to get a 641). I'm also interested in the AKG ULS system. Would a second hand schoeps beat the AKG? What do you guys reckon?

I'm also sort of only in a position to upgrade ONE mic at the moment. I'll do the other a bit later in the year. So. I shoot a lot of noisy locations. When I get a quiet one, thats nice. But its not very common. Do you folks reckon I should aim for a new hyper, or the sanken first? I'm leaning to towards the sanken, but I'm open to your thoughts.

afterthought - people owning 816's and also cs-3e's (oleg, i guess, anyone else?) - is there any point in owning both of these mics? I have an 816.

I've heard the cs-3e considered as having similar directivity to an 816. im curious.
 
My theory is if you have good enough boom mics, you never can have enough wireless. With all the demand for wireless links to camera and producers wanting everyone wired up regardless of necessity, a couple of extra wireless is always good to have on hand.

Your experience may be different but that is where I would put my money if I already had an Oktava and 416.

The cs3e is still a short gun (replacing your 416) but has a much smoother off-axis roll off. I don't have the Sanken but I would not put it in the same category as an 816. Of course Oleg can comment much better on this.

hmmm yeah. im actually in a bit of an ufortunate situation in that i need to upgrade my wireless too, but its going to have to wait. at the moment i have 4 sets of wireless, 2 sonys which i keep as backup, and 2 lectro 100 sets with sanken cos11's. so im not exactly a wireless peasant, but i would love to upgrade the ucr100's to 201 or 401 recievers.

i believe very strongly in boom as the first line of attack. i hate wireless, and all the problems it drags along with it. so im kind of trying to clear up my boom side, (a cs-3e and a schoeps or ULS basically means no more upgrades until they break, so thats appealing.)

that said, anyone wanting to sell their 201 or 401 receivers (block 27), im open to it! :)

Keep an eye on the consignment shops, ebay, etc. 201/211 are going up for sale all the time. If you are open to more then block 27 you could find a good deal in less then a month or so.

I would upgrade the hyper before the shotgun then. You have a solid shotgun and a "OK" hyper. I would push the Schoeps, but I am bias so....

my 100 lectro's have the lm tx's, so it will be possible for me to do a receivers only upgrade. thats why the block thing.
