* Ability to use Pro Lenses
* Improved DOF (built in Mini35)
* HD
* 24P
* direct 4:4:4 output to Hard Disk ;-)
* Follow Focus (have you seen the price of those things lately??)
* Timecode generator/reader
Being more realistic, I think I'd be extremely happy if all they improved was giving us a real native 16x9 and ability to use pro lenses.
I don't see why they can't at least give us the ability to change lenses though. I mean really, what's the big deal with that? My opinion is if they want to compete with the XL-2 now, they should at least give us that improvement.
16x9 chipset
Variable frame rate recording (same as VariCam)
HDV resolution
Longer zoom (at least like the FX1, same wide angle, longer zoom)
Magnified Focus mode (2x or 4x on the LCD so you can get sharp field focus)
Everything else at least as good as the current DVX
..i dont really care about changing lenses ..too much money and wasted production time. like barry said, a nice high quiality zoom lense like the new sony would suit me fine. if it hits the focal lengths i need, it'll suit me fine to do it without the hassle of changing lenses. i second everything else barry asked for as well.
other realistic items of interest:
larger ccd setup for greater DOF and dynamic range (..i mean c'mon, theyve got to be getting cheaper by now.)
higher res 16:9 LCD and EVF
underscan option on the LCD and EVF with safe area markers
3 ND selections .3 .6 and .9
focus control through lanc port
custom tuneable gamma control ..possibly with CPU software
..and a partridge in a pear tree..maybe a cupholder or two.. and a swiss army knife pouch..
Well I am all in favor of adding the cool things like lenses, but I really would like:
Everything noted above
Professional on/off switch
Audio meters with larger adj knobs
Capability for Anton Bauer batteries
(I think I'm describing an Ikegami)
The variable frame rate would seal the deal for me. But I'd also like solid state recording, to some sort of flash memory. Especially if we're talking about HDV resolution. And how about a lens hood that doesn't have holes in it? I can live with the zoom range the way it is but a programable rack focus option (I think you can get the XL2 to do this) would be way cool. This could be streaching it but what about a built in Polarizer in addition to the ND filters. 4:3 Crop lines on a 16:9 LCD might be usefull. As well as real focus distance and real zoom focal length on the monitor. OK last little wish and it's a doosy....
Wait for it....
Wait for it....
A detachable bluetooth LCD with touch screen camera control for remote operation! That would kick major ass!
better focus ring + ability to set a start and a stop point for the focus!
underscan + safe areas on the lcd and maybe even viewfinder?
markings for 1/3rds on lcd and viewfidner would be too much to hope for.
i'm generally really happy with my dvx-100a, the anamorphic makes it a bit more complicated than i would like, especially when you have the anamorphic lens at one end and the century optics anamorphic adaptor on the viewfinder! cam gets pretty long and very heavy.
-16x9 is a must, both in chip and viewfinder
-better audio out of headphone jack (and to be able to isolate one track)
-downloadable chip set, like the 900 (create and save certain looks)
-not sure about the partridge, but the pear tree sounds nice.

However, for the hefty pricetag, they could include a MUCH MUCH better lens cap. The one that comes standard is a crackerjack POS.

Hey!!! I didn't get a lens cap with my DVX, and I got it from B&H
1. HDV and DV in the same unit (like the Sony)
2. 16:9 mode
3. 24p HDV
4. a real focus ring
I'm still not sold on HDV at all (more interested in the Andromeda system at reel-stream.com and all the homemade HD stuff), but it might be a nice option to have. Considering the Sony FX-1 is going to have both DV and HDV for ~$3700 this all seems reasonable. Honestly though, I'm so unimpressed with the HDV footage I've seen so far. I don't own a DVX so I'm not a fanboy, although I have been quite impressed with the images and videos I've seen with the DVX.
