Newest Reel...

Hey guys,

Updated my reel recently with a bunch of new stuff. Got rid of a lot of shots I wasn't the most proud of and kept it at 2:00...Still waiting on one more commercial I shot a while ago, but I'm curious to hear first impressions. Definitely still open to make changes.

Also added a few things in the photography section as well.

Let me know what sticks out in any of these things, good or bad. Always happy to hear it.

Random thoughts..

Your stills have a hard grade - grade your reel

The last shot - the kids walking - I'm interested - get it up the front, and correct the horizon

The girl in the bath - grade and move up

The wide building - correct the horizon

The flower man - terrible lighting bin him

For future projects try and avoid midday !

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and get rid of the shot of the man smelling the flowers with these new clips coming in. I like how it played with the shot that followed after as it gave you some context for the film, but maybe another shot might work just as well. I'm not entirely sure why, but I've just really grown to like the lighting in that shot as well. I wish we had patted him down beforehand as he is a little bit shiney, but I feel like it's a good use of a tungsten light in a daylight scene, something I'm usually not gutsy enough to do. Maybe dialing back the orange a little could help make this shot more palatable.

The only thing I'm wondering is how I would correct the horizon of the kids walking? I'd end up having to crop all their heads if I corrected it that much. I think the dutch and sort of sloppier handheld is something that works well in the final film, but I can see how it could end up looking like a mistake when out of context. I do remember there being another good portion of it though, so maybe I'll dig that up.

Thanks again, some good thoughts.

Personally Id bin the second flower shot too - I think its cheesy (and not that smooth)

I don't think the tungsten on his face works - looks like an error to me - like a spot illuminating the display that you should have turned off

Of course everything is personal

As for correcting the Dutch angles - often if you are outputting 16:9 source to 1:235 output there is a bit of space to spin a little without having to enlarge too much

Again I'm not a fan of dutch unless it is highly motivated (read 30 - 45 degrees) but of course its all personal

Yeah, unfortunately it was shot 2:1 and not 16:9 so there isn't much room to play with there. Again, I'll take a look deeper into the shot.

Good to know your feelings about that second flower shot. Any other shots that sort of lay at the bottom of the heap? As you can imagine it's a little hard for me to look at these objectively.
