newer Mac much faster?

It's when I render or export that I start to wonder if a newer Mac would be a big improvement. Now I"m using a 1.8DP G5 with FCP 4.5.

Would one of the Intel macs and FCP 5 make much diff? For example, a 1 minute render now might be reduced to what on a new machine.

I own the newest, fastest Mac Pro (Quad Xeon 3Ghz). You will definitelynotice a jump in speed, in rendering, exporting, and encoding.

The Macbook Pro (the laptop) will actually I think out perform your G5. It came out before the recent Mac Pro release and it was knocking down some sweet #'s in various benchmarks that were showing up around the net. So yes the Intel's will render faster.

As for #'s, do a search around google for Intel Mac and Benchmark tests. They seem to popup pretty much within days of the release of any new box.

Also, newer software (FCP 5.1.1) from apple always runs faster on older machines.

Most of the bench marks for the new intel ones do comparisons with older PPC macs.
