Newbie - Wired Lav. Question

OK, what am I doing wrong? I have a wired lav mic connected to XLR input 1 (input 1 switch to mic), and the input level set to -50dBu.

When I record, I'm only getting mic audio to the left channel.

I realize that this it's not a stereo mic, and I don't expect to get stereo separation. But, is there a way to get the mono input to both channels. It's creepy looking at a talking head at camera center and the audio coming from only the left side.

can anyone suggest a configuration that will allow the mic input to go to the left and right channels?

Thanks-

Re: Newbie - Wired Lav. Question

Ha! I read the manual (don't tell anyone) Page 59 says "to supply signals from ext. mic. connect the mic to Input2 and set CH1 and CH2 select switches to input 2.

I don't have the camera available right now....but is this my answer?

Thanks!

Re: Newbie - Wired Lav. Question

If you want it on both yes it is. Remember you can always do that in post. If I do not have a sound mixer I put the mic on both channels, then leave one channel a littlehigher than the other. So if the levels get a bit out of control on one, I have the other for backup. Then in post you can just make the one good channel a stereo pair.

Re: Newbie - Wired Lav. Question

Thanks guys. Barry, I also found the answer on page 118 of some guys "DVX book" ;)

Great tip about offsetting the levels - just in case.

Thanks again - W
