Newbie to FCE

Not sure where to post this but just got a quad as a gift (some gift!). Came with FCE, Motion, Soundtrack and a bunch more. Trying to get up to speed asap and have a question about why the monitors dim and screens shrink every so often. They come back when I click on one but haven't learned how to eliminate it yet. Any thoughts?

All input greatly appreciated.

They shouldn't. You might have a system setting set wrong for your displays. You're talking about your computer monitors?

Have you calibrated the monitor yet? Try that and see if it fixes the dim. As for the screen shrink, can you elaborate in greater detail as to what you're seeing? I'm having a hard time visualizing what you mean.

Could you be referring to Expose. Is that what you mean by the screen shrinking? Are you seeing the 'windows' shrink, revealing all open windows? And then when you click on one it expands to full size and is no longer dimmed? Yes elaborate on what you are seeing.

Click on the Apple in the upper left corner, open System Preferences and then Dashboard & Expose. Check the settings there. What you're experiencing is actually one of the best features of OS X.

PS Congrats on your Quad. Have you tried any heavy rendering (multi-layers, etc.) yet? I'm having Mac envy. I have to take a cold shower now...

VERY good answer. I bet that's the case.

You'll need to change your Expose settings to Option Fwhatever.

That way it won't conflict with FinalCut.
