Ive been shooting dvcam for years and am getting ready to buy the 100a, to shoot a film ive written.
i noticed there are two 24p settings, advanced and standard (?) .
which one is optimal to shoot in?
and secondly, is tweaking still needed with the other settings? gamma, knee (what is the knee setting??? have to do with)

and last , i noticied that when i was looking thru the evf on both 24p settings, that there was the slight strobing effect when i panned the camera/
can you only do very minimal movement when shooting scenes with this to avoid this??
how would you follow a fast moving scene and not have the strobing?
input welcome

The complete explanation of 24p vs 24p adv is in Barry Green's the DVX Book. You should read it.

To sum it up, in 24p you'll be making images ready for playback with that film motion feel. The images are ready to use, because although captured in 24 fps, they are alrady converted to 60i in order to play in your camera/television. 24p adv is the format to shoot for transfers to film, or for 24p progressive DVD, because you store images in a way that is easier to go back to 24 fps (You can't record 24p images to DV tape, so the camera fools the tape format). so 24p normal to have the minimum headache possible, and 24p advcanced after reading barry's book.

Gamma, for starters, keep Cinegamma_D, it's cool. And Knee is an advanced feature, keep it auto for starters. Then research about it later.

Again read Barry's Book on strobing, but the short answer is: no, you can't help it, it will srobe. There are ways to make it not perceivable to the public, the best, is to move a foreground object together with the camera so it's stationary in the frame even if the camera is moving. people will look to that and it won't strobe.

Good luck with the new toy!
