So I recently purchased the Octava and a used Sennheiser mk416 as per the research from this forum.

I have all the necessary accessories I believe, but I would like to know what cables I need to buy and none of the mics came with any. What cables? And where to buy? Thanks

Both mics use standard XLR-M/XLR-F mic cables available from almost any music store, pro audio dealers like Trew Audio or Coffey Sound, FilmTools, or broadcast supply houses like Full Compass or Markertec. No need for expensive "audio-fool" cables such as Monster Cable - conventional cables using good quality cable from vendors such as Canare, Mogami, or Belden and connectors by Neutrik or Switchcraft are what you'll see in the pro's kits. Quad core cables such as Star-Quad from Canare are often desired. What equipemt are you connecting the mics to?

On B&H, most of the kits come with Audio Technica XLR cables for 20 bucks. Should those suffice? Money is not an issue. If I need to spend more for good cables, will do.

Audio Technica cables will be fine. Not that it matters, but Pro Co LifeLines cables are my personal preference. I used them on the road as a touring musician and despite heavy use/abuse they lasted for years. I still use them in my studio and with my field recording kit.

I have used a ton of different cables from all different brands purchased at all different prices. I haven't noticed a difference between one cable and the other. To me, any cable will do.

I'm waiting for my GH1, but I'm purchasing the Zoom H4n. Is there anywhere online I can purchase the cables?

Just a quick suggestion on the Zoom H4n, the windscreens here work great if you want to record outdoor ambience via the internal mics. (The included one was not impressive outdoors to me)

Ditto on the cables not making a radical difference in most cases. I will say though, don't buy your XLR cables through monoprice.com.

Generally they're a great place to buy dirt cheap cable that works great and I love everything else I've bought from them, but I hated the connector on their XLR cables. Although after swapping their connector with a Neutrik, I was happy.

And does anyone know if MattinSTL is still making cable?
