Newbie Question #2: Gradual Image/Filter Changes

Question:

I have a long clip. I only want to brighten part of it (it momentarily becomes to dark when I move the camera). So, rather than applying a filter to the whole clip I used my "razor blade" and cut out the portion I want to apply the filter to (BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST).

Problem, after applying the filter, when playing back the change takes place too abruptly. How would I go about smoothing that out... by making the settings take place gradually?

Also, was using the "razor blade" tool the best way to isolate part of the clip for this purpose?

I might've mis-communicated my issue... let me re-phrase.

* 1 long clip (like 20 minutes).
* Most of it is well lit. There is a minute in the middle that becomes dark when I move the camera to a certain spot.
* I want to change the brightness setting to that one minute or so of footage.
* To isolate it, I used the "blade" to cut it from the rest of the clip.
* I then applied brightness changes to it.

Problem, when playing, from the well-lit part of the clip, into the newly brightened portion of the clip, there is jarring change -- the brightness effect comes on too quickly. I want the change (in brightness) to occur more gradually.

Any ideas?

Go back and get rid of the cut. Yes this is one way to do it and allot of the time it works it works best if you are switching from one shot camera A to another shot camera B and then back to camera A that has been Color corected. But for what you want get rid of the cut and just go back to the orginal cut. Add your 3 way color corecttor filter to the clip and place your play head where you want the effect to start. Now go into your filter menu it is the little tab on the viewer window that says filters now when you open it up you will see the tree cloro wheels if you look at the very top you will see a strip with a scroller bar this is your time line. Now your playhead should be where you want the effect to start now you will see a botton that looks like a trangle in it. that is to ad a key frame so hit that button and it will ad a key frame. Now scroll your playhead donw to the point you want the effect to take full effect of the clip. there you will add another keyframe and change your settings to the look you would like. And there you go it is done. the farther the two keyframes are the more grduial the effect taking place will be and the closer together the faster it will be come. now you can just move the key frames you do not have to take the time to make new ones if you feel the timeing is off.
