Newbie: Party filming techniques/suggestions

Hi,

Still a newbie with my DVX-100B. My brother in law wants me to film his birthday party/regular party this weekend. I've got some ideas, but would like to do something a little special as it is a party for my nephew and niece as well.

Could anyone provide some simple filming or shot suggestions for a party? I'm thinking of taking a lot of footage of the kids as well as the guests singing happy birthday. Can anyone suggest any other ideas? Or a book/website that might have some ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Russ,

I think the key to shooting parties is staying as far away from the action as possible. I've had a lot of success shooting that way. When people are right in front of the camera, they tend to act for the camera. Zoom in from far away and capture the action as it naturally unfolds. That has worked quite well for me. Good luck with the shoot!
