Newbie Looking for Guidance

Hello Everyone.

I am new to your forum. I have been using the DVX 100 for about 4 months. I have crossed over from photography into video. I work with a local Photographer who has an established business and was constantly turning down video jobs so we decided to go into business together. We have 2 DVX 100s. I am currently using Pinnacle Studio 8. I have been using Liquid Edition on my Uncle's computer.
I am currently researching to build my video system. I am trying to decidewhat NLE to go with. From the experience of those in this forum, which NLE is the best one to go with? I am looking at Pinnacle Liquid, Adobe Premiere, Avid Express, and Vegas. Also, as I build this system, what is recommended by the experts that grace this forum?

Thank you and I have enjoyed the wealth of knowledge that is shared in this forum.

Bo ::)

Vegas is the only one that will work with 24pa in that list.

Here is my take (and I am by no means an expert, but I was recently in your situation).

Vegas - In my opinion the best combination of function and fluid editing. Get the +DVD and you get a great Authoring tool and the yummy Dolby Digital encoder. (this is what I use)

Avid - The industry mainstay, but a bit more expensive than the rest.

Premiere - Good, especially if you are familiar with (and have) other Adobe products. I have, however, heard a great number of negative comments on it's speed on even the fastest systems.

Liquid - Haven't heard much, but I've been disappointed with some of Pinnacles other products, so I would stay away from this one too.

Good luck on deciding, but for what it's worth, I recommend Vegas.

Well, don't make that decision on the basis of what other people say without trying some demos yourself -- if you're going to spend countless hours working with something, make sure *you* like it.

Re: Newbie Looking for Guidance

I agree, I believe they all have limited demos, that you can use to get a feel for the work flow...etc... Cause if you don't like it, then it will show in your editing.

Re: Newbie Looking for Guidance

I was already leaning to Vegas. I haven't been to pleased with PLiquid, my uncle likes it though, that was why I was considering it. If someone has a different opinion, I am always open for advice.
