Ok so I'm finally venturing into the after effects world and have a basic Planning question. Here is my question. I am working on growing vines, flowers etc...you've all seen it before, but wanted to take it a step further and animate a dolly push past a vine to another animation in the Background(z space). How are people doing this without revealing extreme pixelation when pushing past the vine (or foreground object)? The only thing I can think of is bringing in really hi res pics but that would bog the computer down. So how do I maintain clean lines etc...any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Vector graphics would do the trick or do it in a true 3D program. but yeah hi-res is one way to do the trick and it typically works fine.

I agree with Noahk, vectors would work wonderfully for that.

Or, you could try to add a blur to the vine if you're pushing real fast - that way they won't see the pixels :-P

Vector for sure. Just create the vines in Illustrator and when in after effects make sure the continious rasterization (sp?) button is turned on.

got it thanks guys...I just read about the continous rasterization....looks like I'll be having fun with vectors.
