Newb question: Piece of wood + tripod

Big newb here. I want to screw my tripod plate into a piece of wood. Do I just drill into the wood with a drill bit or....like I want to be able to repeatedly unscrew the plate out of the wood so is like some sort of metal plate I could put on the wood so that it would resemble a female counterpart, like you would find at the belly of a camera. Does that make sense?

You'll need some kind of screw insert like these:

They make them for wood, just hit the local hardware store to find the right one.

Ah, thanks greeches, so I just find a screw that's the size of the insert screw to drill proper hole, then put tripod plate screw inside the inner hole?
