Newb question on sound...

using CS3, Let's say I have a camera that recorded two different channels. How do I adjust them in premiere, so that sometimes channel 1 is the dominant sound being heard and then other times channel 2 is being heard more. Thanks.

You need to split the stereo audio track into two mono tracks, then you can individually adjust the levels on each track using keyframes and moving the volume up and down. You can assign transition effects to smooth the changes too.

Or you can use the Pan Left or Pan Right audio effects on a single stereo channel.

I find it easier to split the audio tracks and name them (say) interviewee and interviewer and work with that.

You should find the "breakout to mono" or "split" option somewhere on the menus - sorry, it's been a while since I used CS3.

Hmmm, I looked in the effects panel, but saw no 'split' or 'breakout to mono,' yeah if I could split those up I'd be set. I saw swap channels and fill left/right though...

1 In the Project panel, select a clip containing stereo or 5.1 surround audio.
2 Choose Clip > Audio Options > Breakout To Mono.

Okay, we're getting closer, I went to clip, audio options, break to mono is there, but it's grayed out like I can't click on it. I even separated the video from the audio just in case that was the problem, but it still wouldn't let me click 'break to mono.'

****wait nevermind, saw somebody else post a similar problem on Creative Cow. Thanks everyone.
