newb question - creating slow motion after you've shot?

I'm trying to produce the best slow motion stuff possible, primarily with a Vixia HF-G20, but also an XH-A1s.

I'm playing around with different frame rates (1/100, 1/250) and wondering if there's a better process than simply slowing it down in Final Cut. I remember once using Motion to create really beautiful slow motion because it had a feature which rendered information in between "frames" and eliminated choppiness.

What do you do after you've got the footage to create best quality slow mo?

1/100 and 1/250 are not frame rates, they're shutter speeds.

The XHA1 is capable of multiple frame rates, being (IIRC) 24f, 30f, and 60i. The smoothest slow motion would come from footage that was shot in 60i, at 1/120 second.

I don't know the FCP answer, but in other NLEs you'd just drop the footage on a 24p timeline and tell it to play back at 40% speed. It'll be low-res (about half resolution) but very smooth.
