So I just almost got fired today, luckily my boss was cool and told me I need to take a vacation, I've got a week paid vacation I can use...

So I'm going to New York. My friends sister lives there and I've always wanted to go.

Sooooo....People who've been and people who live there:

Please list some places that are cool to visit in New York. You guys rock. Thanks for the help!

Phil

BEST pizza in NYC! It's like a religious experience.

Vegetarian's Paradise 2 (VP2) @ 140 West 4th Street

Fantastic fake meat vegan restaurant with some of the best food I've ever tasted (and I'm a carnivore).

Junior's Restaurant in brooklyn. Cheesecake!

Head over to Tom's Restaurant in brooklyn and get yourself a cherry-lime rickey

Hop on a train to Williamsburg brooklyn on saturday and go on the Brooklyn Brewery tour.

Avoid times square like the plague. Take a walk through SoHo, drop in on B&H Photo Video, grab a bite at chat n' chew and try the honey dipped fried chicken.

The city's best burger is generally found at Silver Spurs.

Sit for a while in union square park, tomkins square park, prosepect park, or central park.

Get into a shouting match with the black israelites.

Get a hooka at "the Taste on A". Get a filafel from Bedouin Tent in Brooklyn. Get a coffee at "Three Square" on Lee Strasberg Way and laugh at the hapless young filmmakers from NYFA as they stumble around union square with PD150's.

THat's just a few suggestions to get you started.

Re: New York People where are ya??

Iam going to NYC this Friday and stay til Monday. Iam diffently going to B&H. ::)

Re: New York People where are ya??

I drove from Florida to New York with my mom once to trailer a Harley back for my dad. But we were somewhere in the sticks up there, place called Friendly. Is that an oxymoron? ;) Anyway, we barely stopped to nap, so I had no fun at all. I am trying to justify a trip to New York somehow in the coming months so I can go to B&H. I'm bribing my daughter with the possibility of seeing snow. ;D

Re: New York People where are ya??

It's shameful that the number one NYC stop of DVXer's is B&H photo. It's about the nerdiest tourist attraction I've heard of yet. ;)

I still haven't seen snow! It would be cool if it snowed when we were there...But if it did I think my Floridian blood would freeze in 2 seconds!...

I get cold when someone opens a door too quickly...

Re: New York People where are ya??

Isn't New York a huge filming place? Are there any film museums or anything??

Re: New York People where are ya??

there's the museum of television and radio, there's a number of arthouse theaters, but no sort of film museum.

Re: New York People where are ya??

Go to:
Kim's Video on East 12th - awesome DVD and music collection

To watch movies:
Village East, Angelika, Lincoln Plaza Cinemas

To eat:
If you like Dim Sum, go to Dim Sum a Go Go in Chinatown
Bread Factory (located all around) have good, cheap pasteries
Gray's Papaya - best hot dogs on earth
Carnegie Deli - on 8th St (and maybe 34th?) - awesome deli

B&H is fun -- NOT OPEN ON SATURDAY

Re: New York People where are ya??

Think I'll go to Canal St and buy a brand new DVX with a full warranty. :o

Re: New York People where are ya??

There is the American Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens.
Right now they are showing The Warriors, a great NYC flick.

Not a strictly film one but MoMA has a colection, yes?

And the Whitney does, at times.

Re: New York People where are ya??

MoMA has a theater right now on the east side. I don't know what's in their collection right now, but it's more of an art house theater then any sort of museum.

What a perfect place to post this: http://www.islanddefjam.com/www2//av/go.ram?num=28648146101

You need real player to play - but this is the new ja rule music video. I live in harlem (the only Aussie, I promise you). Anyways, I was walking to the supermarket the other night when I saw a video shoot, and sweet talked the cops into letting me in. I'm about 2mins 55 secs in, just left of the girl on the guys shoulders.

Gotta love NYC - and my 15 mins of fame! har har.

Re: New York People where are ya??

Hey Phil, if you do go to Toms restaurant yell him your making a film with Aram. I was his sons best friend in highschool. Got him in trouble a few times and I was considered a bad influence on him by the head mistress at school. Hes NYPD now so what did she know. I think Totonos pizza in coney Island blows grimaldis stone baked pizza out of the water. You should give me a call and we can get a picture together and if your here next weekend you can come to our shoot if our director is back from Cali.
Hey Peter, i live in harlem too. 107th and Amsterdam. Was it Fairway you were walking to? I hate going there, toooo damn crowded. I order from freshdirect.com. The food always comes when they say and the quality has been top notch. Even the meat is good. The best thing is that YOU DONT HAVE TO STAND IN LINES, LOAD UP THE JEEP, DOUBLE PARK TO GET EVERYTHING IN THE BUILDING, GO FIND A PARKING. You just have to press the buzzer, let the dude in and give him a tip and all that can be done in your undies. :P

Re: New York People where are ya??

Opressor - I once tried to go to fairway in my undies, and didn't get too far. Yeah, it was fairway, just under the bridge. I laughed my ass off when I saw my face in that video.

Hey - I'm on 139th, if you want to go shooting in NYC or need a hand on any of your projects, give me a shout. There's also some decent nightlife in harlem too.

p.s. I walk to fairway - spare a thought for us! :D
