New Wheels

Well, I've been wanting to ditch my sport tourer (Kawasaki Concours) for some time now as I'm starting to feel my age.

Been looking at all kinds of cruisers where I can just kick back and enjoy the road.

Bid on a few on ebay, won this and while I was up in PA this weekend went and got it, here's pictures from right after I picked it up.

1997 Honda Valkyrie with a flat 6-cylinder 1500cc engine!

10,000 miles.

Was VERY well taken care of, I plan to do the same, and ride the HELL out of it!

ROAD REPORT:

Rode it home to VA from PA on Sunday...took backroads all the way through MD until I hit 95 Just N. of Baltimore.

This cycle has POWER TO SPARE!

Several times I needed to get out of the way of a rabid cager, and a slight twist of the wrist enabled me to leap around them with ease.

No doubt the flat 6 cyclinder 1500cc engine had something to do with that, most CARS I passed had smaller engines.

I took a break in Beltsville and put on my raingear as the beltway was starting to cloud up and show lightning.

10 minutes later a deluge of rain and wind set upon me. With the rain gear and nice sized fairings I had no problems in the rain and got home fine.

Only thing I'm going to change is put a 3.5 gallon expansion tank and a cruise control.

thats sexy.. i just got some new wheels my self.. but the 4 wheel kind. finally ditched the land rover.

Thought I'd provide an image of my summer project:

It's taken me a few months and afew $$$$$$ to get all the parts I needed. Every part I've got for the ride is at least 20 years old (even the chain). For the eagle eye forum members, YES, the picture shown has the newer type of Shimano DX pedals but I have a pair of originals that I want to keep for display purposes as is the AERO Seat (New). I have an Original Kashimax Aero but again want to keep it for display purposes.

Since the picture was taken I've replaced the seatpost with an original Shimano DX racing seat post. I reckon I've spent in excess of $2000 (US) to build the bike I could never afford when I was a boy back in the 80's........but it's worth every penny.

Just itching to do my first drop-in in over 20 years.

is that the back of a honda on the back of the bike ;)

It's an add-on trunk...it DOES look like a civic ass end, doesn't it?

The coolest thing about the trunk is that the red light in the spoiler does the Cyclon "scanning" thing back and forth...now if I could only get the old style Cyclon sound to go with it!

If I were to buy anything other than a Harley, it would be one of those. :)

- Mikko (actually, Terry)... plans to buy Harley 'one of these days'.
