New website

I absolutely love this DVX family. What a great place to post and get feedback. I have just put up a website for my brand new wedding videography business. I have done 2 weddings now, both pretty much pro bono to get some experience. I just got the DVX in Nov. and got all the DVDs and books to try to learn how to use this great camera. I already know some things about the website I want to change. But any thoughts/critiques of 1) the website and 2) the portfolio videos.
Things I already know...The flash intro is too long. I have shortened this down to about 30 seconds. It doesn't look nearly as clear as it should because it's too long, and takes too long to load.
I am going to add some stills from my weddings to the background of the linked pages soon.
I am going to make the portfolio section more user friendly.

please check it out...www.spotlightpro.com

Thanks in advance

Re: New website

Looks nice. I don't know **** about wedding videos but you might want to put a groom in the intro. (I assume you used your girlfriend/friend) Looks a tad one sided. Looked bright too but that might be my monitor.

The clip on the top right in sample videos would make a better intro - That one looks really good. Love the bubbles :)

Re: New website

Really nice site. Good call on shortening the intro. Having done plenty of weddings I can tell you its definitely all about the bride. Don't worry about not showing the groom, he doesn't care. The bride wants to know that you will make her look pretty and graceful.

I love the whole look of it, very graceful. I really like how your menu pops up. There are a lot of really ugly wedding videographer sites out there and a classy look like yours will make a good impression.

You also mentioned that you are making the portfolio section more user friendly. If you haven't already planned to, make the first frame of your demos a pretty one instead of black. Also, if you can, include a demo of the vows or something using clean audio from the ceremony. My little online demo had just music behind it like yours and everyone kept asking if I also got the live audio. They thought the shots with the music were all they got. :)

One more note on the demos. The bride or her mother will more than likely be the one watching. In my experience once they see the wedding ceremony taking place they get emotional (sometimes crying) and as they watch they just keep picturing themselves there. At this point they couldn't care less about your videography. The most important thing is to have it going on so smooth and gracefully that they are not distracted. I'm serious, a bride can watch a one minute static shot of the girl in the video saying her vows (no cuts, zooms, effects, nothing) and be sold that you are the best videographer around. I noticed in your demos some bumps, awkward zooms, unecessary shots, etc. All things that could pull them out of the moment. You have enough really good stuff in there that if you just trimmed some of the worse stuff out you would be fine. Your online demos should look as immaculate as possible.

Once they are ready to visit you and take a closer look they probably will have already interviewed (or will be interviewing) other videographers. Thats when your actual product will stand up against the competition.

Not that you're asking but another thing I thought I would mention are the two things that sold most of my weddings:

The first was a smiling and happy, enthusiastic personality and acting like the enjoyment I get out of filming their wedding is more important than the money. A lot of videographers are grumpy people that have been filming weddings for 10 years and are burnt out.

The second, oddly enough, was the leather bound wedding albums I ordered from http://www.creativevideopro.com. The nice padded ones with the cameo frame. The brides went nuts over em.

;D

Re: New website

is it just my browser, all of your video's load at the same time. so each took a long time even over the cable, try adding a click to view with a small text of what the clips about so that you don't have people sitting 4 times longer than they need to to watch one clip.

Re: New website

I like the design of your site, but I found the black color a little morbid and macabre. A site advertising wedding videography feels like it should be a lot brighter. Maybe that's just the anti-goth in me speaking up. Otherwise the site looks pretty good.

Re: New website

I agree with Isaac Brody! But it doesn't mean you web site isn't good! Design is very nice!

Re: New website

I didn't mind the dark colors. It was actually easy on my eyes. Overall the site is simple to navigate and looks nice. You should throw maybe some roses & flowers somewhere on the site.

Re: New website

Thanks for the feedback. I am planning on putting up some pictures on the site. This is definitely not finished. But my goal in this was to keep a clean and simple website that was easy to look at, because I noticed that almost all wedding videography websites are too bright colorful and cheezy. Too many colors and too busy. So I definitely wanted to keep mine much cleaner, but it still has some work left to be done.

Re: New website

The 4 quicktimes in your portfolio was an odd choice. I would definitely just have an image for each and let the person decide what they want to view. (Especially for us dial-upers.)

Overall the site looked nice, clean, and professional. Good job!
