new website thoughts?

Hey guys,

So I run a small indie-press in my free time. Nothing fancy, just a couple guys pimping comic-books. We just started the website and I could use your advice. Check it out, we still have a long way to go. I'm working on it all next week, but your thoughts on the functionality, aesthetics, and overall feel would be great as I work through it. Thanks!

All thoughts welcome!

Looks really nice, alveraz. Very professional.

The only problem is that the first few menu items shift everything to the right with a mouseover. News, Comics, and Webcomics work fine. But the first few links cause a shift in both Firefox and IE because the div or td size increases.

Didn't have time to check your html/css. But you should be able to compare the code for the "About" link with the "News" link and see why one shifts to the right and one doesn't.

Good luck!

Yes, but now there's no mouseover effect. The links should have something that indicates they are active.

Looks good! Can't find any bugs to speak of!

EDIT: I don't know if you coded the check out cart or if it is a plugin of some sort, but I love the interface. Great! I like how everytime you add something to a cart it does not take you to the cart, just a nice little message that fades away to confirm it!

I didn't but anything, sorry, just testing it out. :P

Cool!

Just one detail that I would try to find a workaround for, I would look if it is possible to use something like spry or ajax in the page so that when you choose an option only the part that changes is the one you want. Maybe someone that knows better chimes in an explains.

Well this is just my personal opinion!

anyway, the page looks really cool!

Excellent site Alveraz, I usually always have one to two crits, but this time round seems fairly solid (IM Professional O)

You would need to use AJAX along with PHP or ASP.NET for partial loading, farely easy to implement.

I really like what you've done with the circles and rounded boxes and overall layout. Colors work really well too. My only complaint might be that the home page doesnt match the aesthetic of the rest of the pages and looks a little bit less professional. I'm talking tiny bit though. Still looks good, but the rest of the site just looks a bit better somehow. The fake room and the comic book covers on the wall just dont quite work for me. Its a cool concept but maybe if it fit more of the style of the patchwork character. Too many straight lines, sharp edges and empty space without texture. Still looks cool, but that just kinda stood out after browsing through the whole site. Sorry to dwell on that, just wanted to be as constructive as possible.

Site really does look cool though. Oh and I noticed the forums have a little icon for the address bar/tab (not sure what thats called) but the main site doesnt. Keep up the good work!

Excellent thoughts guys! I really appreciate the help. Hey, Ila, not sure what you meant by "when you choose an option only the part that changes is the one you want." What do you mean exactly? I'd look into it if I understood what you meant :)

Thanks again guys, I'm on my way back to make adjustments...

sorry, I really didn't express myself well enough (it usually happens hahaha).

well here is a demo I found online

http://www.vineyardesigns.com/resources/dreamweaver/DreamweaverCS3/DWCS3_spry/contact.html#

Basically what I meant is when you clicked in a menu link only the lower part of the page changes instead of refreashing the whole page.
I think that it adds a lot of profesionalism and functinality to a webpage.

again you have a cool webpage there!
