New Viewfinders, am I doing the math wrong?

How can the latest/greatest EVFs are touting a resolution of 960x640 when the 5DmkIII's LCD already has a 1,040,000-dot LCD? (The mkII had a 920,000-dot LCD years ago)
960x640 would only be 614,400.

Is a dot not the same as a pixel? I understand the tolerance for a true color LCD may be much higher than that of the LCD on the back of a camera - is this the explantion?--it's a better LCD?

My other question is: I shoot primarily 2/3" cameras (HDX900, F700, F800, F900). Has anyone replaced their standard ENG style viewfinders with one of these aftermarket EVFs? Or does everyone still think the Panasonic/Sony Black & White ENG viewfinders are the best?
