New Video w/ EX1 & SGBlade

We shot a music video the other day in about 5 hours with the Ex1 and SGBlade (which I'd never even heard of) and Canon lenses. I've got the Letus/HVX. Typically the EX1 is a little too sharp for me, but this looked pretty darn good to me. I tried to match it with my HVX, Letus, and Zeiss glass thinking the sharpness was a factor only until light reached the ground glass, but they were no match.

Here's the video, sorry for the poor compression: http://lindsaymann.net/gaelamour.html

Nice stuff Lindsay... Personally, I would rather have a "sharp" camera since I can always soften it in post if I want... Just can't go the other way!

That's the loveliest thing I've seen in a long time. Simple, original, beautiful, evocative, erotic, and on top of that cheap and fast . (A rare exception to the golden triangle i.e. "cheap fast and good - pick 2") That was both humbling and inspiring to me. Thanks for sharing.

Man, it definitely was cheap. And totally fast. We had a mishap where the artist couldn't be there until around 2pm for a hard wrap at 7pm. We all hustled like crazy, and I'm glad it turned out to be enough footage.

I tweaked contrast a little in Final Cut, but most of the color is in camera. The only scene I had to mess with was the shots in front of the vanity mirror. Had to bring them up by the doorway and cool off the walls. Color correction is something I wish I was better at.

I was really impressed with the sharpness of the SGBlade. I worked on a film that used the P&S Technik on an EX 1 with Cooke S4's, but this music video looks sharper and has less vignetting. Although I'd love to try some Master Primes sometime.

And how you recorded it in the first place. Very well done...especially the lighting and exposure.

I'm impressed because I thought the EX1 was supposed to be a difficult camera in general for 35mm adapters. This is the second video I've seen today from this combo that, even after being compressed for the web, left me saying "wow" (and this from a Panasonic guy who doesn't even like most hip-hop or modern R&B).

VERY well done indeed.
