new video stabilizing software.

Hey guys I just read this on an email from HD Studio. and thought since Edius does not have as many options for plugins, this should be a very welcomed addition.

ProDAD, a German video-editing solutions company, has introduced a video plug-in application that eliminates shake from high-definition video images.
Called Mercalli, the new plug-in is designed to stabilize shaky video footage during post processing. It can detect and distinguish between intended movements, such as panning or zoom shots and unintended shocks and shakes, the company said.

Whenever it detects any shake or tracking of an object, Mercalli stabilizes the frame by repositioning the entire image to compensate. This reduces camera shake and smoothes the object, the company said, always producing a “significant improvement” in stability.

Currently, the Windows-only plug-in is available for several versions of Adobe Premiere Pro and Elements applications, Avid’s Liquid 7x, and Grass Valley (Canopus) Edius 4.5. It works with a range of high- and standard-definition formats, including video from mobile phones.

Although Mercalli is automatic and works behind the scenes, it allows users to make specific recommendations and requests using a menu of pre-set controls. The application allows the user to view the analysis of the video footage and provides suggestions for further improvements.

There are profiles for specific movement types, including tripod, shoulder cam, and Handycam—and “rescue” for “highly shook or jittery” video recordings.

On up-to-date computer systems, ProDAD said that Mercalli, which supports multicore data processing, will run in real time. The plug-in is available in two versions: Mercalli Light for rendering in DV/SD formats begins at about $85 US and Mercalli Expert for SD/HD formats begins at about $168 US.

Video demos of the plug-in in action are viewable online and a trial version of Mercalli Expert can be downloaded.

I'm looking for something that can convert HD to SD as it stabilizes. I assume a program could be given WAY more room to stabilize if it is going from HD to SD.

Is there anything that can do this? If my question isn't clear, let me know.

Not sure,
I actually haven't even downloaded the demo for this. I just thought people would want to know.

Also I'm trying to download the trial version. I can't find the program after I installed it. There is no .exe file to run other than the one that I downloaded. Installing that file only gives me a bunch of .dll files that do absolutely nothing.

edit - I was assuming that it worked in After Effects. I guess not?

if I'm not mistaken it works with your NLE. it could have installed it into the proper folder of the NLE. or you might have to copy the dll into the proper folder for your NLE.

Yes, Siniarch.
proDAD Mercalli, it's the best Stablize plugin for me in Edius 4.5 and Premire pro CS 3.11.
I've finished some importan project which can not finish without Mercalli.

Trannamhai,
I'm not sure if its the best one, I'm sure you can get something smoother with Aftereffects but its going to take you way longer. if you are on a tight deadline, definetly, one of the best options.
Luis.

Siniarch,
You're right! Infact, i've tried some other what i've heard that beeter than Mercalli, it like: Boris red for Edius, 2D3 steady move pro for Premiere, Deshaker for virtualDub... ect but it seem to drive me crazy with so much of complicated and spending long time.
My job is not nomarly, i always have to finish about 30mins DVCPRO HD footages in a day with stablized quality from terible vibrately footage in so much of zoom in-out, panning up-down-left-right. So in finaly, i choose Mercalli it seem to be the most suitable for me.
By the way, i'd like to ask you some help about the flicker removal tool (I've posted another topic about this, already ).
I have a lot of footages (P2 clips) from hvx502, in DVCPRO HD 720/50p format with much of flicker, because it was shot from auto-iris mode and the camera moved shaky (can you see the problem?) i've tried recover them with Defliker in Premiere pro and anti-flicker in Edius but there was nothing changed. Then, i use Deflicker filter in virtualDub, it seem to be fine but it take so long time, because P2 clips can not open in virtualDub so i've to export to AVI from my Edius and after all import them to Edius again.
So, please help me! is there any plug-in for Edius or Premiere pro CS3 to resolve my problem??
Thank you!

you should bring your AVI into after effects, use the tracker to stablize then do a precomposite into SD and your set :)
