Hey people,
Just wanted to post that my new "Dream Editing Machine" is all finished, up and running... And running really fast. I had decided to build this shortly after purchasing my new Panasonic TM-700 camera. Great little 60p camera, but not too great to edit it's footage on a slower editor. I've wanted to build a powerhouse computer for a couple of years now, so this was my chance to "need" a new computer.
I did some research over a couple of days to come up with the right stuff and right prices. I used to do this as a sideline business years ago, but having been away from the forefront, I was a little more then rusty. Stuff is really much better, much faster now and I had to do some serious updates in this old gray-matter to get up to speed.
Well, I decided on what to build and where to buy, so I went ahead and took the leap. Glade I did, even though I was more the a little apprehensive on making all my own choices without talking to any "kids" in the business. Turns out, I was right on the money in just about everything I hoped for. Nice clean build, very sharp and super fast. I'm having a ball playing with it, tuning and overclocking a bit. Won't be too long and I may even get down to doing some editing ;>)
Since I had posted in a couple of place here on dvxuser about my intents to build this, thought I might make a little post about it, and link back to it from some of those threads. Who knows, might help a few guys setting on the fence about doing a build of their own. Not hard these days to get good stuff, just a bit tricky picking the "right" good stuff to go together. There's also alot of kit builders out there that can do this for you, if your just a bit to timid to try for yourself. But, regardless how it comes about, it is sure nice to have a high power rig under your command.
Enough jabber, here is the parts list, a few photos and some timeline grabs. I am also going to do a edit on this machine of some footage shot of this build. Done with the TM-700 and edited on the machine build to edit footage from this camera -- Is that cool or what.
