NEW Vegas Pro v8.0b and DVD Architect Pro v4.5b updates

Eeeeeenteresting:

Added the ability to render 5.1 surround to WAV and WAV64 file formats (including new rendering templates). Rendered surround files contain channel-mapping information so that Vegas will preserve surround panning information when adding these files to 5.1 surround projects.

After installing this update, one of my machines lost all the slider buttons on the time line in both Vegas and DVDA. Anyone else seen this problem yet?

Reset your windows "Theme" back to default or turn off "Themes support" in the preferences.

Is there a notable render / realtime playback improvement in 8 pro compared to ver 7 ???

Also has anyone noticed real benefits from the higher color processing bits ?

audio won't sync on 24p DVDA project

audio won't sync on 24p DVDA project

Hello everyone

I'm new here and hoping it is OK to post this question in this thread(can't find the link to start a new one). Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to provide as complete a set of conditions as possible for clarity.

Thank you in advance if you're able to help -

I've been trying unsuccessfully to get DVD Architect 5.0 to make a 24p DVD for over 3 full days.

Using Vegas Pro 8.0, I'm rendering video on a 70 minute project to "MPEG-2" "DVD Architect 24p Widescreen video stream", and audio to 48k 16bit stereo.wav.

DVDA 5.0 happily prepares and burns a DVD from these files, with no need for recompression.

However - the audio playback on the finished DVD is early, from a second early, to about 3 seconds early at about 25 minutes into the film, then curiously, back to only 1 second early later in the film.

If I use a video file rendered with "MPEG-2" "DVD Architect widescreen video stream" (29.97), DVDA burns a DVD that syncs perfectly with the same 48k 16bit stereo audio file.

If I use this same 29.97 video render with an AC-3 audio file from the same project, it syncs perfectly.

Over 3 days, I've methodically ruled out about 20 possible causes, and I THINK it has come down to my inability to find HOW to set project properties in DVDA to 23.976, progressive, or perhaps some other arcane setting that has to be checked, etc.

File/Properties drop down lists in DVDA 5.0 do not contain options for 23.976, or for progressive scan.

I've scoured every other tool and menu option in the entire program and have not found how to do this.

I've scoured all 176 pages of 5.0's .pdf manual, and there is not a single word on how to do this, and not a single word about how to actually MAKE a 24p DVD. There is only the statement in the prepare section that simply says that 23.976 is a supported format and won't need to be recompressed.

Sony (paid! ouch!)tech support is clueless; the guy I talked to didn't even know that a .wav file is PCM, and he ended his session asking me to 'prove' to him my contention that Sony has been
extolling the ability of DVDA to support and render 24p DVD's since DVDA 3.0, which I did in an email by sending him links to 3 sony sites. No further response from him.

I've scoured Sony, Creative Cow, VASST, nothing.

So I'm at my wit's end, trying for 3 full days to accomplish something for a good customer, and I'm at your door.

Best
Horace

ps - here's some of what I've ruled OUT:
1) not the DVD player; results are consistent in several different ones
2) not the computer; results are the same in 3 different machines, both 32 bit and 64 bit.
3) not the burner; results are consisten on 3 different burners
4) not the audio files; both 48k stereo and AC-3 5.1 sync perfectly with a 29.97 video stream render of exactly the same project timeline.
5) results are consistent whether video and audio renders are made from a nested project timeline, or a timeline of the same movie made from rendered (mpeg2 - DVDA 24p widescreen) video files.

AC3 does not sync with 24p rendered video; I said that AC-3 (as well as 48k stereo) sync with 29.97. Thank you for the suggestion though!

After yet more experimenting, the crux of the problem appears to be the total lack of a way to set project properties in DVDA to 23.976 progressive. In the optimize window, it's possible to reset menu items and other media to 23.976, but the 24p video file loaded into the project is automatically already set to it's proper 23.97 progressive, and can't be changed (it's grayed out).

I strongly suspect that the inability to set PROJECT properties to 23.97 progressive causes a mismatch between the unchangeable video event properties and the project properties. Framerates between those two items match, project syncs. Framerates don't match, project doesn't sync.

In four days of scrambling around on forums and blogs, I haven't encountered one instance of a person actually stating that they made a successful 24p DVD with DVDA.

The opions to set video frame rate to 23.976 and field order to progressive are MISSING in their respective drop down lists in the File/Project Properties/Properties tab/Disk Properties tab. There is nowhere else in the program to accomplish this.

Sony has been blatting about DVDA's ability to support/create/render 24p DVD's since their 3.0 release notes (google it), and there isn't a single word in the 176 page .pdf manual or anywhere else about how to do it.

So you tell a customer you'll make a nice 24p workprint for them of the rough of their movie which they bothered to shoot on 300 rolls of actual film, and it turns out to be a marketing lie, a bug, who knows.

Sorry for the rant !

Anyone ever made a 24pDVD with DVDA I'd love to hear it can be done

Anyone here know a way of setting project properties in DVDA to 23.97 progressive, or any other configuration method that enables proper audio sync on a 24p DVD project, I'd love to hear it.

I'll share whatever I learn with everyone
Thank you all who read this and considered it -

Did you import the video and then go to optimize and change settings to 23.997 fps.. Just a thought?

How about putting the audio on the Vegas timeline with the video and checking sync there? If all is well, then render making sure to check the "include audio" on the audio render tab of the 24p widescreen DVD render settings. You could also possibly adjust video clip speed of the areas that aren't matched perfectly. Never tried it and not the most elegant solution, but it should work.

It sounds like you are just dragging separate video and audio files into DVDA but not checking their respective timecode on the Vegas timeline. Did I miss something about the way you were doing it? Could the recorder timecode have drifted while you were shooting? What methodology was used to sync camera and recorder - a timecode slate?

Thanks for letting us know what you find out. Sounds very frustrating.
