New User to Vegas

Hey Producers, Editors and many more,

I have just got Sony Vegas 7.0c + the updates 7.0c for my Christmas. I am 22 year old, Profoundly Deaf Student @ Motherwell College in Scotland, UK.

I love video editing. I have used Pinnacle for 2 years so i fancy a change so this is where Vegas came along.

As the festive seasons is finished i recorded my family Xmas and New Year parties. I have uploaded it to my Sony VIAO Rz442 P computer HDD from my Sony DRV-14E camcorder. I want to save it to a DVD and share it for years to come for memories. I have edited it took out some bad parts of the video which was on the ground and all sorts.

I have it as 1 hour and 30mins of filming. I want to combine or join the tracks together for different chapters, in the Sony DVD Architect 4. Some of the video is 3mins then i stops but i want to make a chapter every 20mins. in Pinnacle it was easy to join and combine the video files. Is there any way to do this in Vegas 7.0 so i can make different chapters in DVD Architect 4 Menu part?

Hope this helps and understand this.

Position a cursor in timeline on place where you want a new chapter to begin and just hit " m ",Vegas will put mark on this place and you just have to name it.

Thanks for the help so if i add that into DVD Architect 4. it will auto enter the chapters for me? in the Main Menu part.

Also i want to have a 3 color Gradient Text for the photos sections with a Gradient Background as well different colors of course, behind the text. How do i do this?

When you render from Vegas, you have to make sure "include project markers" is checked in the render box.

For color gradient text, here's the basic idea: make two tracks. Put your text in white in the upper track. Put a gradient in the lower track. Make a parent/child relationship between the tracks (the little bent arrows on the track controls). Set the compositing mode of the upper track to "Multiply (Mask)." Drop a luminance mask generator on the text.

Go into Help (F1)>Index, and then type in/choose "Parent Overlay Mode." There are illustrated instructions. Click on the down-arrows next to the selections in black.
